I'd always pictured the Dutch as a nation of eco-warriors pedalling about everywhere on their bikes and I was surprised to see us V8-loving aussies only in at no. 7. |

| What surprised me about those numbers (per capita that is) is Canada being more of an energy hog than the U.S. This, considering Canadian motorists pay more per fuel than U.S citizens. I found that interesting. |

So socialist governments praising their government funded energy efficiency programs are actually the biggest energy wasters. Guess we have to relearn the history of Russia all over. _________________ People first, then things, then dollars.

| South Korea and Japan are the biggest oil consumers without domestic oil production. Puts them in kind of a perilous position... |

We Canadians don't use as much fuel for driving as Americans.
We use MUCH more to keep our butts and Tim Hortons coffee warm in winter though.
Thus the 0.069 vs 0.068.
Does Saudi usage include all they use to PUMP their oil ? Or do they use it all to air-condition the desert and drive big SUVs ? |

I don’t know how these numbers where calculated but when you here the higher estimates of global oil production (About 86 mil give or take) there actually talking about all liquid fuels not just crude oil. Which means bio fuel is counted. This may be how the figures are calculated here as well. |

| Interesting. Japan is the world's third largest oil consumer. It imports about 99% of it's oil and uses about 5 mbpd. And yet the US uses more oil imports than Japan- 60% oil imported which equals about 12 mbpd of imports consumed. |

It's amazing the first time you think about it. USA consumes three times more than China yet China has about 3 times the population of the USA. _________________ "The age of excess is over. The age of entropy has begun" |

This picture is a bit confusing. We (the Dutch) have the largest refinery in Europe. We export petrochemical materials, throughout the World. We sell gasoline to the US and diesel to Europe. |

Despite what you say about the refinery I am still shocked by the Dutch usage as Australia has many resource exports which I would have thought would also be oil intensive. Added to that we travel much longer distances in much bigger cars. Can this really be right? |

Popular misconception but not true in the least. Brazil is a rapidly developing country and all that modern living needs oil to sustain it. Don't forget that oil has a million other uses besides just gasoline. Petrochemicals and fertilizers are just two that spring to mind (and Brazil has a huge ag economy with enormous fertilizer inputs).
There is no such thing as an oil free country (especially one that has industries and rapid growth like Brazil). Also thank goodness for all of the sugar cane ethanol or Brazil's oil usage would be much higher and putting more upward pressure on oil prices. _________________ Simon's Law: Everything put together falls apart sooner or later.

It's right... Rotterdam has the largest harbour of Europe and is huge when it comes to oil. The petrochemical industry uses up a lot of oil. And then there's all the transportation, as small as the Netherlands is it still has one one of the largest harbours in the world as well as one of the largest airports.
Also, the Netherlands rely heavily on oil and gas, much more so than the EU avg. |
