Sadly graham, politics is the ultimate fact in the discussion of PO. We can talk about drilling new areas, developing alternatives, changing the energy consumption prolfile of our economy, etc, etc, etc.
All those factors could have an impact on the situation in 10 or 20 years. But until that time all significant responses to PO will be driven from a political platform whether we like it or not. We can amuse each other with stories of this "fix" or that "solution" but none of it will have an effect one our lives over the next 5+ years. But the response of the world's political forces will dominate our lives in the short run.
But hey...I'm with you. I'd rather throw around more geology trivia than talk about election cycles.

Good day from Pheba, from the farm:
First, Buggy; your description of today's child was right on the bullseye.
I often relate to the Pilgrim that one of my fears is that the members of this society are in no way, shape or form capable of taking care of themselves.
During the first great depression people could still exhibit some independence.
Children were given chores to do at a young age. Children used their imagination. My husband was building forts out of scrap lumber when he was a little kid.
Toys were not bought. Toys were usually made.
A fat kid was a rarity.
My daughter married into a conservative family. She was raised liberal. My ex was a liberal. I guess you could call the Pilgrim and I liberals.
There are problems with labels. In many ways we are conservative in thought. In some ways we are very liberal.
Labels are dangerous.
I began informing my conservative daughter about Peak Oil years ago. I told her to get out of debt and attempt to become as self sufficent as possible. She listened.
They live on deer meat, and the grandkids are being raised on deer meat. They are pencil lean, and sinewy. They are given very limited time on the boob tube and video games. They spend a lot of time outside at play. Their father is teaching them to hunt. Their grandfather is teaching them about nature and farming.
They are learning to respect nature, a liberal trait, yet their religion and politics are conservative.
I find both the conservative and liberal thoughts and ideals we have mingle, crossover, and diverge.
I am picking up a lot of hate and disgust for conservative/liberal labels on this post.
That's a type of thought that is dangerous and negative.
We can't afford it any longer.
I, for one am sick of it. I love my daughter and grandkids.
We agree on much, and disagree on little.
Yet, they are conservative Christians, and I am a liberal atheist. When TSHTF the mess can play out in many different ways.
Blaming this on conservatives or liberals sure won't help us.

Incredibly accurate post! The reason I used "liberal" in the title of this thread is because that was the label used in the article, which came from a "liberal" news outlet. I love how your grandkids are being raised! Except for the hunting and deer meat, that's how my kids are being raised. They too are slender and sinewy. One of the chores is mowing the grass, with the old fashion rotory push mower. I would love to be a fly in one of my neighbor's houses!

I love your post Pheba,
I too come from a "mixed" family and find the labeling just too much. People are much more than "labels". It's the mix that makes life interesting and creative. _________________ formerly Taizy and Taizy8 - having problems with the cookies.
