Good work, dude!

How much space do you devote to potatoes? They do take up a good amount of space, but I love them, and they are a staple.

What do you do with your excess, dry, can, or sell?

How many plants did you have going. I'm particularly interested in the potato yield per plant and any growing methods you used concerning the potatoes.

Good Deal xerces!

I have a lot of tomatoes, and egg plants growing on my patio is So Cal. I am impressed with your results in New York.

Maybe we won't all starve!

Great work, Xerces! Now to put things in perspective:

If you would like a copy of the spreadsheet, send me a PM and I'll send it to you.

Edited after spreadsheet correction.

Excellent work, xerces.

I like the spreadsheet posted by PeakOiler. It shows well why it is important to grow calorie-dense crops such as potatoes. And it illustrates how difficult it is to grow a significant portion of one's diet on a small city or suburban plot.

I have a similar spreadsheet posted at http:\\my.core.com\~purdum3790, the link "Garden Contribution to Dietary Requirements" which anyone is free to copy. About the only difference with mine is I've tried to account for what is discarded when preparing a vegetable - i.e., you may have a 5 pound butternut squash from the garden, but maybe only 2 pounds of it ends up in the oven and that's the number used to figure calories.

Hi
I'd love a copy of the spreadsheet. Please send to Hardtootell@hotmail.com

Thanks

i would like to try raising the panfish that you caught in PA.

but i'm afraid there is a conflict between this & getting my rent deposit back, since i live in a 2 BR apartment.

any idea on the smallest tank you could put a small colony of tilapia, sunfish, whatever they're called, and still have them be happy & breed ?

Nice crop. Can you expand it? You seem to have a nice knack for high production on small area.

I used 1 garden bed and two containers, so about 26 sq ft under intensive cultivation yielded 52lbs of potatoes.

My entire garden this year is around 100 sq ft.
