I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

The Bureua of meterology: http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/index.shtml
gives a summary each month of rainfall and temperatures for each month for each Australian state and the nation. We are running at about one degree celcius above average for each month in recent months. This is consistent with a warming planet.
We in Australia are particularly vulnerable to global warming and the resultant climate change (despite the fact that a rare major rain event accross our cropping land is expected this week).
BTW, do you on this list think that the run up in food prices is simply the result of public pressure and short sighted policies, or is there something more sinister happening? Is this a grab by the west to gain power over the world by making them very food dependant? I am not a conspiracy theorist, but we don't have an abundance of oil, but do have an abundance of food. Are we flexing our muscle by using this mad biofuel policy and subsidies on our cropping land in order to make the world dependant upon us for food, rather than we being dependant on the oil providers? If so, is this ethical? I think not! Surely there are other ways to prepare for the future. If I am right, let me know. If I am off beam, also let me know!

I always wonder if Rockhampton or Darwin will be something like "supertropical" in future and what would this mean. Maybe there will be less hurricanes up there because the ocean will exceed the critical temperature of 27°C?
