I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

We didn't need for the World Bank to tell us that. Every time we fuel our never-ending ever-growing driving habit with food, food price will go up. I'm surprised it's only 75%, and not 150%.

The funny thing is the US Govt. states food prices have only gone up 3%.
Does the government hire accountants from bankrupt wall street hedgefunds and corrupt financial companies? What formula do thier figures on unemployment percentages deficits and GDP/economic growth come from?

I have heard spin from Bio tech/agri-tech conglomerates like Monsanto who state they have developed seeds that can yield twice the crop per acre and that is going eventually solve that problem?

You surly cant just beleave that some report or news says that Bio-Fuels alone has cause the high food prices all by it self,, many of you have read of very high fertilzer prices right,, do you know how much fuel is needed to grow food and transport,, How about those DVD's that most of you have watch that has said with high oil prices that cheap food will be a thing of the past,, [crude awaking,, etc],, but some one in the world bank makes a report and you seem to fall all over your self beleaving as if it was gospel,, many things are causing high food prices not just Bio-Fuel,, but with the way many people beleave this I think the next Prez will kill this program and it will be all for nothing,, and watch and see food price wont go back down then I can come back and say I told you so,,, Find the real truth at what is the real problem don't always beleave some hack story and run with it......... [$140.00 a barrel oil has no effect on food prices,, you have to be nuts...]

What about a the farm land wasted to grow tobacco for cancer sticks, coffee beans for that $5 coffee at Starbucks,, farm land paved over for highways, shopping malls, condos, walmarts, etc,, what about weather that has ruined food crops all around the world, what about a world popualation that is growing very very fast,, 7 billon people by 2015,, $140.00 a barrel oil, high shipping cost, etc, etc, etc, little of this was in the report,, [but no its all Bio-Fuel that is causing this]........So what next Bio-Fuel is hurting our economy,, airlines bankrupt because of Bio-Fuel,, auto makers blame Bio-Fuel for there problems,,, NO folks maybe its more the very high price of oil.....................................

How many barrel of oil would be missing per day without biofuels?
On how many hectares is this biofuel produced which was formerly used as agricultural land?
I think these biofuels took away the cushion, that's the bad thing.
Even without climate change the governments should always calculate with bad harvests and it's really irresponsible not to have any stock.

Some facts about the situation on food prices:
The price of Diesel fuel in the US has gone up by almost 500% since 2000 and has doubled in price since 2006.
US Farms use farm vehicles that use, you guessed it, diesel to help harvest crops.
Food is transported by vehicles that use, you guessed it, diesel to get the food to market.
Corn and Grains slated for use to make biofuels are designated for livestock consumption, not human consumption and the left over corn and grains are still nutritionally useful for livestock.
Simply put, the person(s) at the World Bank that came up with this logic are either a) inept and have absolutely no understanding of economics, b) corrupt and getting paid under the table by the oil industry and OPEC to make it look like this is being caused by something other than their lack of production, c) a combination of a) and b).
