For a minute there I thought I had to get off my couch, when all the while the fact is we don't have to do anything much but keep things afloat for just a few decades more! In fact, we'd best shut up about PO, because if our offspring finds out we knew about it all along, they'll turn and wring our necks come 2036!

I do not pray to God to fix Peak Oil. What I do pray for is wisdom and judgment, while I prepare to help my family through the bad times that will come.

I have faith that when I die, I will be with God in heaven. Until that day comes, I will do all the prepping that I can to insure my familie's survival, regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in.

In my prayer life, I also pray for members of this board, who do not know God and his Son, that they will find him. My theory is it can't hurt.

I came to realize after 18 years of religion and 8 years of academic philosophy that 'meditation' and 'prayer' are synonyms in this modern global vernacular. Unfortunately my liver hurts when I use either of these psychic mechanisms.

I don't pray to God about PO.
Jesus taught us that if and when we pray we only need to pray "Our Father".
God already knows our thoughts and feelings.
(And it seems absolutely logical that God knows all these things without us articulating it into words.)

Secondly, I am not convinced that praying about it will make any difference. All we can do it focus on doing the right things and have our minds straight and then see how it goes.

Having that said, I am not foreign to the idea that prayer can have other positive results besides trying to convince God.
For example generation of positive energy, bit like what Dr Emoto suggests with his ice crystal experiments.

What's important is additude, feelings and rhythm (life cycle).

I can see the news already:

"Crude oil drops $5 on NYMEX, on increased supply of prayers."

Prayers are clearly also inversly correlated to stocks.

That end bit of the chart is a very revealing contrarian indicator.
Masses suddenly ceasing praying and most likely reverting back to worshipping mammon is a strong indicator stocks may be in for a rally again.

My retort was "if God provides rabbits to eat...do YOU have the ability to catch & kill the rabbit"? "do YOU have the skills to skin, gut, and cook the rabbit"?

So she rolls her eyes at me and tells me what a lunatic I am Smile

"faith without works is dead" sis?

a lady came into the produce department today with her teen daughter. We talked for a few minutes about rising food prices and gas prices, then PO. She then turned to her daughter and said "you know, this is all laid out in Revelations". She got the LATOC and PO.com website names from me and left, after thanking me. she was very, very nice.

tommorrow she will probably hack me to death with a machete. Smile

I do pray for a reprieve, but mostly for wisdom. And,...I have prayed it would also just happen quickly so that we can get to the hard work of picking up the pieces.

We are in limbo right now, waiting for the other shoe to drop. I have been disheartened lately as I have seen he uptick in non-peak nonsense. It is great that the MSM has started covering peak a bit more, but with every knew high in gas and oil we seem to get this bipolar thing going even stronger. One day it's Hirsch time the next day some guy is going to save us all by burning his own hair.... Then we get guys who think that a gas tax holiday is the way to go. All we can say is that we've done it to ourselves on this one. God gave us the blessing of an abundant resource and we squandered it. We are going to have to learn to get along without cheap oil from here on out and the picture does not look pretty. But the same God that lead Paul through all of his trials will lead the faithful in these times as well. Rather than destroying faith as some have said, peak oil is going to invigorate faith and faith based communities as people unplug from the matrix and rediscover the simple pleasures of living, working, and eating locally. Compare that to the zombie hoardes scenario, which is likely in some places. Generally community is going to be the best bet for surviving, even prospering post peak.

Whatever happened to that "prayer doesn't change god, it changes me" stuff?

This reminds me of the scene with Terry Jones in Erik the Viking where Hy-Brasil is sinking.
"Don't worry! This isn't happening!"

It's just another way of stating/thinking "It will never happen to me" as an excuse not to make a move.

I have recently started to pray, haven't done so since I was an early teen. Mainly praying for strength and health of myself and family members but also for humanity overall.

Since beginning to pray again have seen many instances of coincidence/sychronicity etc that have reinforced a growing faith and optimism.

I also pray for new technolgies and people to develop new technolgies the will create alternative energy sourcess.

I also pray for humanity to begin to seek a more simplistic/less materialistic lifestyle that requires less of the Earth's resources.
