It's not totally carbon-free, and it's probably ugly as sin, but a man in Ohio has found a way to get 110MPG out of a 1987 Mustang. He and his team made many modifications, but it's not a hybrid. The man's not a total altruist, though; he's entered in the Progressive Automotive X Prize contest, a race to be the first to develop a commercially viable car that can get over 100MPG. No details on how they're doing it, so you can't quite try it yourself yet.

ok that link didn't show anything about a car
please repost with correct link - I suspect the "mustang" was the type of horse used to pull the car - not surprised at a 110MPG then

I did get a belly laugh out of the article it was linked to though! Thanks, that was a priceless display of absolute hogwash!
The fact that I hated coffee at a young age meant I hated Columbians. Since I hated beer until I was 40, I guess I hated Germans, and also the French because of their wine. Oh, and sushi... so I still hate Japanese people? And the Russians because I still hate Caviar?
Please relink the article, as I suspect that will be another priceless display of something. _________________ When somebody makes a statement you don't understand, don't tell him he's crazy. Ask him what he means. -- Otto Harkaman, Space Viking

A picture of a Fark ugly American car and a baseless claim about some hick managing something the multi-billion dollar Big Auto industry can't do.
Colour me unimpressed. I preferred the hilarious racism-from-food-likes article. _________________ "Nothing survives. Not your parents. Not your children. Not even stars."

If the transmission had a super high 10th gear, the seats were removed, & the engine was run super lean, destroying the catalytic converter, it could probably be done. _________________ People first, then things, then dollars.

Damn ! the article says its got 400 hp on tap too !!! I don't see how its possible to get that power and MPG in a basic ICE but hey if it works this guy deserves an engineering job at Ford ASAP.

I saw this car on a world news program about a week ago and it showed it ran on E-85 [Ethanol],, and yes very high performance as well,, I think it has very high compression pistons and runs very lean and proper gearing to suit,, Ethanol can be run a lot leaner than fossil fuel with no damage,, high compression does not always use more fuel,, if you drive it easy like granma going to church on sunday and having it burn very lean and proper air/fuel management it can get good MPG,, but 100 mpg + seems odd but it may have somthing more than just E-85 as fuel...

Pelmear told television station WNWO that the car hasn't traded power for miles per gallon. Pelmear said the car has 400 horsepower, goes well over 100 mph and can go from zero to 60 mph in three seconds.
