since I was on the high side with 139.50 in our previous contest for the whole year of 2008 and that was obviously too low of an estimate, I'll make the following "bold" prediction.

high/low/close

$300/$140/$300

Here are the entries so far. If I do not have you on here or if there is some typo, please feel free to feed back.

For my own estimate, I took the EIA estimate of last December's STEO, and assumed that the exact opposite would take place in the second half of the year. It forecast a 17% decline between July and December.

So from the current price of 140, a 17% increase, and some reasonable assumptions of a spike around hurricane time.

Note: I decided (mischievously) to deprive Mr. Bill of being the only entry in Euros. I am sure he was a little conservative, and the pricing will be higher than he predicts, so probably no harm done.

I'm adjusting my low prediction from $124 to $134. It seems that the dips in the oil prize is getting increasingly shallower.

I (or someone) is going to update my prediction again just before New Years Pup.

Make a note.

Yes, indeed, I believe my earlier predictions will prove too low for the current environment. They were based on my best information at the time, but the world moves on, and so do prices. Definitely one of the dangers of strategic planning. One needs a dynamic not a static model as events change. A good lesson for me.

Really, I didn't figure it coming so close to my high this soon, either in the first game of '08 or in this one.

2 guesses a year are enough but in the real game of life I gotta wonder if my high of US$149 wasn't high enough and my original close around US$100 was too high.

Things seem to be getting tough pretty fast and after the Olympics and US elections and fall fill-ups...

Guess we'll see.

Unless we get deluged by late entries, this is the official list.

Thanks to the participants for supporting this contest.

Note that a few of these entries are already too low, based on the July 1 price of 140.97, which has since been exceeded.

I did this revision on my low forecast on Jun 30.
