If "it's bunker time" why the fark do you care about the price of gold? You evolved some enzyme that lets you digest the stuff?

This article from ENS highlights the effect of recent gas price increases on Americans' priorities- it appears that more people are in favor of energy exploration (such as drilling in the Alaskan wilderness) than conservation and saving the environment.

Are we running away with the mentality that we don't have to give up or change our high-quality lifestyles to reduce climate change? Just find more energy and consume that, right? I thought the general public seemed to be getting the point that if we don't take care of the planet, it's going to fry and suffocate us as we upset its balance.

What do you all think? I love the points of view you all bring forth...

Why is this an either or question ? I say do both. We will still need vast amounts of oil for the foreseeable future and there simple isn't any way around that no matter how idealistic some people are. On the same note drilling anywhere and everywhere at this point wont lower prices at all, at best it will reduce the increases in prices to a small degree. We cant drill our way back to 30 dollar a barrel oil so long term investing in renewable fuels is our only hope but I do think that we are going to need all the oil we can get in the meantime to allow for a somewhat soft landing.
