Some fear, mostly about pain during the dying process. Not afraid of being dead, though, as far as I can tell. _________________ No original ideas are contained in this post.

I'm 50-something and a few years ago, I feared death - a LOT.
And then, last month, someone I love dearly passed on suddenly (in his late 40s) and that's really rocked my world. Funny thing about getting older is that you start adding up how many people have already passed on and I think that kinda takes the sting out of death. My elder relatives are all gone (including my beloved Mother) and I've buried many friends. Maybe that's nature's way of making death a little more tolerable.

I don't necessarily fear death. Not looking forward to it, mind you, but I don't fear it. Like Ludi, the thought of "dying" scares me more than death. And, worrying about those I would leave behind. And like hope_full, having lost several family members and friends myself, I just wait my turn. I have faith I'll see them again.

Just yesterday...
I was carrying our brand new calf from the field where it was born back to the barn. As I was passing the grave of our old horse, which we had put down a month ago, I noticed movement--
I poked with a stick--
There was this liquid bubbling, and a vile smell. Flies.
I came back later and noticed a huge sinkhole, with a hurricane of flies coming out of it. The horse carcass was boiling in the heat. It was awful.
I dumped a can of lime into the hole and then raked dirt into it to stop the smell.
"That's me," I thought.
I hate it. _________________ "By the time individuals discover that remaining resources will not be adequate for the next generation, the next generation has already been born. " David Price

Tough experience, KillJoy. We lost a beloved family dog a few years ago. We have a "pet cemetery" on our land where all of our family pets are buried, under a small grove of trees. I went by many times and re-mounded the dirt as it started sinking. I understand how you feel. It's never easy.

I have a list planned out of things I want to do in my lifetime. If I get to them all, I'll feel a lot better in the end. So for me it's all about climbing that next hill and trying not to get stuck in a rut (like arguing with higonegro). _________________ Peak oil is sort of like a mental Everlasting Gobstopper, except it tastes like ass and you can't get it out of your mouth.

anybody seen that video about a brain doctor who has a stroke and could have died?
everybody I mention it too has seen it.
she made dying, having a stroke seem very pleasant.
after watching that video i thought a stroke might be a good way to go.

At the moment, it's not so much death, but dying while trapped in a hospital that I fear. This prospect really brings out my latent claustrophobia. So, post-PO, I'll have one less thing to worry about!
