Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Well, I agree with what most are saying here. However, when Simmons starts out with "I am just flagergasted at the misinformation ...", I find that hard to believe. I for one am disgusted and pissed off, but flabbergasted and surprised? I don't expect the pundits, economists, oil 'historians' like Yergin, Congress and the Bush Admin to say and behave other than what I see in the media. I would be flaggergasted if they were saying anything else.
At least Bush appears to undersand that this is a supply/demand problem. I'll give him that much. Then in his next breath he emphasizes the necessity of more drilling -- as if that is a short term (or any term) solution. So we are addicted to oil and therefore need more drilling?
Now Bush proposing a sensible energy policy that admiited PO, that would be flabbergasting.
Like all peak oil diggs, it's not getting many. Lots of global warming diggs, or gas price whining diggs, but the peak oil message hasn't hit criticial mass. _________________ As long as I am around, there are no worries we have reached "Peak Words"

Yeah, I see him reaching the Lovelock stage of giving up. Nevertheless, he IS still running his investment firm. _________________ As long as I am around, there are no worries we have reached "Peak Words"

I fear Simmons will end up like Mike Ruppert, predicting "the US will collapse within 2 weeks" - that was 2 years ago.
It's hard to make these predictions precise, especially in a world that is so heavily interconnected these days.
The core tennet of Ruppert and Simmons though rings true and heck, considering what is happening on the markets right now this may just end up happening sooner than either of us would think / like.
What I find funny is that when I point these things out and my final conclusion about the "end of the American Empire" the majority of people still seem to think that this is the outcome I wish for and usually fire back along the lines of: "Oh, so you rather have China in control?"

I am so sick and tired of people repeating the same old garbage being spouted by the looney left. Bush is an idiot, Cheney is evil etc. etc.
I can promise you the Bush administration knows about peak oil and has known about it long before most of us had even heard the term. His family is oil. Cheney ran Halliburton, one of the top two oil companies in the world. George Sr. was head of the CIA........so get real people. You may not like their politics, you may not agree about the war, you may not like them personally.
But never assume they are fools. If you want to believe foolish things, just listen to BHO! _________________ Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well.

So your proof of executive branch intelligence is leadership in the CIA? But the CIA works for the executive branch. If Bush is stupid then the CIA is stupid.
So if Bush is a dumb cluck, and Cheney is a sneaky pile of shayt, then the the CIA must be the same. Had enough of the looney left or DO YOU WANT MORE _________________ ree rah rip ram. sunofabitch godamn. hidey didey christ almighty. rah rah crap

Halliburton and Schlumberger are the top two oil SERVICE companies in the world.

I agree with the other poster who fears Matt Simmons is sounding too shrill in that item. He has great credentials, but I fear he's losing "street cred" by jumping into the most apocalyptic scenario in that type of 6-minute discussion. He should have stuck with known facts (which are damning enough) rather than saying "it's the end of long distance travel" and "we all need to return to villages". Those types of comments would be better placed within the context of an in-depth 1-hour PBS discussion, or some such -- Not a 6-minute sound bite type of program.
I think he really came off quite badly in that piece. Everyone has an "off" day, but you can't afford to have too many "off days" when you're on national TV. I hope he is more focused in the next appearance, because he is a great commentator on this issue.

I don't think Matt will be on CNBC again.
He used the words, "food shortages".
I don't think they're going to give him a second chance to say that. _________________ Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die.
