Or you could grow a garden and tend to some livestock. Live a peaceful existence. Something a bit more noble.
nobility (in the sense of morality not financial standing) is a concept made up by people that couldnt handle the realities of life and wanted to put a bad spin on the true nature of man
it is not only more natural but often more rewarding to be immoral (unnoble)
is a concept made up by people .... true nature of man... more natural...

Good luck with that around other people. Lots of folks don't put up with "cheaters" and criminals.
Just FYI.
Well said.
Anywayz, soldiers are expendable pawns. And the first ones experimental stuff gets tested on (agent orange, depleated uranium, etc.). Just cause you have a gun doesn't mean you're safe. _________________ My PO Amazon store (shameless plug).

Try looking for carrier duty - your ship will be the biggest fattest target out there but there will be no worries about food or lodging - or the zombie hordes, being protected by a vast expanse of ocean, Phalanx Close-In Weapons Systems, 24-hour CAP patrols flown by its very own on-board air force, and the rest of the billion-dollar battlegroup. Just try to make sure *your* carrier isn't the one heading of the Strait of Hormuz, otherwise things might get a *little bit* hairy ... _________________ Live quotes - crude oil, gold and currencies

The survival food chain:
1) Steve Jobs
2) President
3) Congress
4) Military

It will be an attractive option for many within a year or two I'm sure. _________________ Just look at us. Everything is backwards; everything is upside down. As a stratagy it has a good redundancy in case of variable outcomes built into it, I mean that if PO is just a long recession for the next ten years youve got a job, pay etc etc. If it all does go to hell in a hand cart in a couple of years then you have a job, food a pension etc.
The downside is some loony war like invading Iran or something. Its not likely but it is a risk.

I'm a soldier in the Army Reserve. If I were deployed away from home (and my family) during a period where the doo doo really hit the fan, I can't even imagine how stressful it would be... Ugh.
I can't vouch for joining the military as a survival strategy, but I can say that there are a few positive things on my own list of what I've learned or gotten from this experience:
- how to fire and be comfortable with a variety of weapons, and how to defend myself if need be
- first aid skills, and augmenting other skills I've already had (mostly relating to spending time outdoors, navigation, etc.)
- how to handle irritating and annoying conditions, situations, people, etc. I think I've "toughened up" a lot, physically, mentally and emotionally, and find it easier now to put things into perspective.
- and there are all the free MREs that have come my way...lol
Obviously you don't have to join the military for this kind of thing, but I'm trying to be an optimist, I guess.

I believe that in life, you get what you seek. If you want to farm, you start to pay attention to farming news and events and start maneuvering your life to growing things. If you are interested in cars, you work and talk about them and you end up in a circle of friends that fix cars, if not going as far as working in a garage.
If you seek war, war will find you. Violent intent begets violence and when there is violence, life spans get shortened. You may feel powerful behind that M-16, put you are positioning yourself in a dangerous and violent situation. If survival is your goal, picking up a gun and running to the battle front is NOT a survival strategy. The Army will feed you only as much as you need to be able to stay alive and keep squeezing that trigger. You are not free, you are a willful servant of a war machine. WTSHSF, you are expendable. I've seen the behavior of our American 'Hero' solders during the aftermath of Katrina personally. As a soldier, you are a thug with a high-power rifle. As a soldier, you are a bully. Thugs and bullies meet bad ends.
It may not be glamorous, but if you want an inspiration for survival, don't think of a soldier, think of a rat. The rat hides, gets food from anywhere, runs when he can, and bites when cornered.

OK rat man, but rats are food for cats. _________________ HOLDING THE CENTER

Yup indeed the fat cats (ala Steve J, Bill G, GB, Warren B, etc....) will eat us rats.
The previous blogger forgot to write that rats (at least rat genes') true survival strategy is to make as many baby rats as possible in the time between birth and being eaten by the fat cat, or by another rat.....

Oddly, many humans think of themselves as individuals, not as "genes." I know I do. I can't speak for rats though. _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow..." - jboogy
