Maybe, just maybe, Bush and the TPTB actually concluded that there was no way to attack Iran and not cause TEOTWAWKI.

Really. I'm speechless.

Really very bad news for Israel, IMO.

This means that any attack on Iran would immediately result in the death/capture of diplomats.

Is it possible that this is true? Am I dreaming?

Is this only a ruse to try to get Iran to relax before a bombing?

I see a couple of possibilities here. Yes (hopefully) the administration realized that lighting a match in a room full of gasoline vapors is a bad idea. They could also be distancing themselves from a unilateral attack by Israel - "Look see we were trying to negotiate! It wasn't me!" or, they could be setting up negotiations to "break down" and thus justify a joint attack.

Are they really going there to negotiate, or are they giong there to make demands that they know Iran will reject? What happens when they demand Iran to stop enrichment, and Iran tells them to jog off? Even worse, what if some "terrorists" take the diplomats hostage, or kill them? Granted, these are all "what-ifs," but I find it difficult to take this administration at face value considering their track record.

Perhaps they are doing it to calm fears about an attack thus lowering oil prices.
