Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

graham - I have the opposite view.
There are no conservatives left in America.
You have your liberal socialists and your liberal fascists.
Both parties show zero fiscal restraint and both implement bigger government and federal control. _________________ Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. yup. Conservative used to conserve. Now they want to buy stuff, use it up, and buy a newer one. We don't build things to last. It wasn't the liberals or the conservatives who set up this system. It's the Capitalists.
So is a real conservative a real socialist now? _________________ ree rah rip ram. sunofabitch godamn. hidey didey christ almighty. rah rah crap

OMG the look on their faces was priceless!!
I have never seen a show anchorman come so close to being speechless.
Horray for Matt not holding back one bit!
For those unacustomed to watching CNBC's Fast Money, these people always look like this. They do the fast camera up close face shots all the time. Part of their shtick is the, someone just kicked me under the table look, when the other guy is talking.
If you think that somehow this group got what Matt was talking about in the least, your sadly mistaken. _________________ The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

I did not say the republican party is conservative, I said they are very right wing (corporate socialists/nationalists maybee?) . Facism (at least in europe) is always considered to be the far right, and communism the far left. Also the democrats are NOT socialist.

I couldn't stop laughing when I saw this video...watch everyones face when he finishes the segment with this....

"If we have a big wake up call and Monday morning we all agreed that we would stop ever talking about 'Lets go back to low prices' and lets basically take a lock step and a hasty retreat from our heavy addiction to oil and gas use and start living in villages again and eliminate long distance commuting by liberating the workforce and paying by productivity and growing food locally and embracing an enormous amount of R&D. We could get ourselves out of a very deep hole within 5 - 6 years, but instead we're having a witch hunt for who got us here."

That really was great, they looked absolutely shellshocked. Yet another proof that people just don't know whats going on. They're clueless. When he started to talk about villages and going back to the old days they started to sink through the floor. This really is going to be an amazing shock to people when the truth hits them, both nationwide and globally speaking. Have to agree with another contributor on the site, bring out your popcorn and sit back. This will be a crazy ride.

I think they got his thesis which was to stop the witch hunt and start to figure out solutions. The point about living in villages was exactly right also. I know that it will be painful, but we have to learn to live in walkable communities again or learn to farm.
Those are our two choices.
No more 50 mile commute each way to a job in another state.
I love how Matt Simmons boils it down.
They did seem a bit shellshocked as he was talking about what to do. _________________ Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings.
Even better on second viewing. Hair gel sounds like an NFL commentator at the end.
Matt Simmons: Diesel shortage, run out of food in a week. [Hair gel laughing] Let's retreat from oil use. [freeze frame on Hair gel suppressing laughter w/fake grimace] Go back to living in villages. [Hair gel tilts head in honest perplexity]
Hair Gel: From a trading perspective, commodities are cyclical... use your crayons. [?]
Jon Stewart doesn't come close to this level of political comedy.

Yeah, it was ridulously funny until it hit me that the Fast Money clowns are indicative of how too many people react to PO. And that means we are stuck on denial. We are soooooo screwed.. _________________ Local fix-it guy..

The Hopi Survival Kit - Chapter 6 - Prophecies Past and Present - Page 207/ 208.
Hopi Elders
Quote:
Let us take a look into the future through the eyes of our prophets. They say that along the way the industrialized world will have certain problems. Throughout the world people will be uncomfortable because of the changing times. The worldly woes people will be going through. People will have to make adjustments to fit themselves into new life styles and environments.
The industrialized nations will become careless in getting more of the resources they need out of the earth, oil, coal, etc. Believing all these things will last forever. Soon natural resources will be depleted. Fuel shortages will occur; industrial machinery will come to a standstill. The machinery used for planting, harvesting and transport will become useless. The white man (Bahanna) with all his intelligence and technology will not be able to repair the damage.
Now let us review our knowledge briefly, the centuries old prophecies which warned us what would happen when we forgot the principles of right and wrong in our behavior. We will see extraordinary events in Nature and Earth, including mankind: because modern man ignores the wisdom of ancient culture and religion. Modern man looks upon old wisdom and knowledge as dead, useless and no longer respected.
Modern man began to depend on the money system and no longer Mother Earth for food. According to prophecy when this happens Mother Earth will hide the nourishment which she provides because of the view that ancient food is poor man’s food.
When all food disappears modern man will try to correct his mistake, the conditions he caused upon the earth through his inventions. He will try to achieve some kind of method to heal the wound, but this will not be possible when we reach the point of no return.
Only through peace the survival of mankind and our planet Earth is possible. Only if we, the human race, are willing to change.
