Manhattan Project, Apollo Project, The Next Big Project....?
The next big project by the US govt must be, like the earlier Manhattan Project and the Apollo Project, a huge, massive energy transition project to completely transform what kind of energy the nation uses (not coal or oil) and how we use it and for what. Al Gore says we need something in the next ten years. Others speak eloquently about this.
So, what to call this NEXT BIG MASSIVE GOVT PROJECT to transform our energy needs and use?
It won't happen soon, although it should be in place NOW, but just to get things going, what names could you suggest for this project, eye-catching, media-savvy names to goad politicians into ACTION NOW?

"Project Terrorism" seems to be losing steam, doesn't it? I've read that the Obama camp is worried about him being assassinated. That does sound like a dream event for neocons, doesn't it? Kills two birds with one stone for them. They get rid of Obama and have another terrorist event to scare people back into submission.
Regarding big projects, most of them have been sold under the national defense umbrella. The Interstate Highway System was sold as a way to move troops and war machines around the country in case of attack. The Apollo program was a race with the USSR for status in the world. FDR's new deal was implemented to keep communists from taking over the country. And finally, project terrorism was initiated to galvanize the country into supporting neocon agendas.
Obama has big plans to spend on our decaying infrastructure, which could be good or bad, depending on the plans. If the plan is to build new public transit, I'm all for it because we are going to need it.
Actually, I think their should be a "project electricity" which would involve completely rebuilding our electric grid and building massive renewable electric generation plants along with superconducting transmission lines radiating out to cover the country. It would be a huge investment and take years, but moving our electric generation into largely renewables is an investment that would never stop paying a return. The sun has plenty of energy to last for billions of years. Too little too late is likely to be the tag no matter what. Without new designs for high speed rail and such that can be rolled out in a fraction of the time there is no way that anything can be completed in time for it to significantly effect Americans daily lives.
