you want to see a jump in GM's stock? declare that the ev1 molds are being dragged out of whatever factory they are sitting in and that one of the truck factories will be changed over with expected production to begin in 1-2 years. It can and probably would be a flat out lie but it would probably jump the stock a few bucks.
Lutz already shot down that fantasy.
They tried that already.
It was called the GM Chevy volt.
There was a lot of hype in the beginning but much like a bad porno movie it failed to deliver in the end.

Hey, it will eventually be delivered at $26k$32k$48k $(2x inflation + 50k) a bolt... _________________ "It's called the American Dream because you'd have to be asleep to believe it."

I get your joke, but the Volt project isn't over--yet. _________________ Paranoia is demonstrated to be an infectious disease, and stupidity plus the internet its major vector.

Well by attempting to compress 10 years of engineering into 2 years, they've created a temporal anomaly that has reversed the flow of time and caused the Volt project to be over before it began.
Here lies the "Late Chevrolet Volt 2010-2006" (may she RIP).

GM unveils 'fuel-sipping' Camaro
Quote:
When unveiling new performance models, car companies usually boast about horsepower, engine size and expected zero-to-60 times.
But when General Motors unveiled the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro Monday afternoon, it was the car's fuel economy numbers that were front and center.
It's the return of a once-popular model that has been out of production since the 2002 model year. V6 versions, which GM expects will be the biggest sellers, are expected to get 26 miles per gallon on the highway. That's about the same as a V6 Ford Mustang, while boasting the same horsepower output as a V8 Mustang.

26 miles per gallon on the highway is 'fuel sipping'?
GM is toast. _________________ Now why didn't I think of that?
July 22 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co., the two biggest U.S. automakers, have about a 46 percent chance of default within five years, according to Edward Altman, a finance professor at New York University's Stern School of Business.
``Both are in very serious shape and the markets reflect that,'' Altman, the creator of the Z-score mathematical formula that measures bankruptcy risk, said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. The model shows that these companies are ``on the verge of bankruptcy,'' he said. "
"In 2005, Altman said GM had a 47 percent chance of default within five years. "
Ok. This guy has just ruined his credibility. He's saying that the chance of GM BK is lower now (46%) than in 2005 (47%), after losing even more money the past 3 years and in market conditions where obtaining money is more difficult. The Volt doesn't require 10 years worth of engineering. It's a 100 year old concept invented by Ferdinand Porche. GM is just overengineering the Volt because the auto industry is full of regulations and liabilities. _________________ Paranoia is demonstrated to be an infectious disease, and stupidity plus the internet its major vector.
GM Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner said in an interview July 15 that the company has the ability to raise cash, and he called bankruptcy ``a bad idea.'' Ford has said it had access to $40.6 billion in funds as of March 31, including credit lines.
No surprise. I'm trying to get a better handle on what the costs/timelines for such switchovers will be.

Greg Gardner, an analyst for the consulting firm Oliver Wyman, which publishes the annual Harbour Report on auto manufacturing, said converting an auto plant’s operations from trucks to cars is no easy feat and could easily cost tens of millions of dollars per factory. But the changeover is critical, he said, since Ford has lost small-car sales because it didn’t have enough inventory.
“You can’t use the same conveyor system for trucks as you can for cars,” Gardner said. “There’s some equipment, like torque wrenches and things like that ... those are common to any vehicle. But really heavy-duty capital equipment has to be different.”
But it’s unclear if Wall Street will be satisfied with Ford’s latest plan. Brian Johnson, an analyst with Lehman Brothers, said Tuesday in a note to investors that Ford still has too much North American plant capacity and needs to close plants.
The Prius will be built at a plant under construction in Blue Springs, Mississippi, with production of the gasoline-electric hybrid scheduled to begin in late 2010. The Prius will join the Georgetown, Kentucky-built Camry Hybrid as the second Toyota hybrid built in North America.
Quote:
Toyota has said that its $1.3 billion Blue Springs plant will have the capacity to build 150,000 vehicles annually.
Why they didn't retool an existing plant I'm not sure. Perhaps it's uneconomic at the moment - or unfeasible. _________________ Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi

Still can't see how it would get 35 mpg with it still pushing a lot of wind at how tall it is, maybe 25-28 mpg with aluminium body,, is that American mpg or that funney metric mpg ??.

Yeah 35 km/gal would make a lot more sense wouldn't it? _________________ "So while you sit and whistle Dixie with your money and your power.
