Are you kidding me? Retreat???

They're opening McDonalds and KFC's in Iraq. Pretty soon Iraqis will be annoying each other with Amway sales pitches. That counts as a win. At this point we just need our military to ensure stability long enough for everyone to get a taste of a quarter pounder. Then, Iraqis will be just as tied to the corporate umbilical cord as all the rest of us, and there IS no escape from that...

Afghanistan (which of course is NATO and not just the US) at this point is just the western world method for bleeding venom out of Pakistan. Because we would rather the extremists there die in the mountains than stick around to vote and/or overthrow the government of a nuclear nation…

I take it you would like to see the Taliban control Pakistan's nukes?

Wow, this is amazing! Apparently, Viper can hear us all the way back in 2003! It's just too bad he's not living with us here in the future, or he'd realize just how embarrassingly naive people back then sounded saying things like that. Sad... sad.

@mos: I think you are misunderstanding what I was saying... there are people who want to fight us living in Pakistan... we give them a good place to do so in the mountains of Afghanistan. They get to martyr themselves, we keep their hands off of the Pakistani government... everybody wins.

@Nickel: They really are openning McDonalds franchises all over iraq in the last year... after that it doesn't really matter whether our troops are there or not because economic conquest is MUCH more powerful than military conquest.

Yup it's true. There are now a grand total of ZERO Mcdonalds in Iraq.

This one, of course, is the one exception.

The funny thing about capitalism. People vote with their wallets. if Iraqis don't want McDonalds, they don't have to eat there. Nobody's going to force them. There's no conquest. How well do you think a Fredrick's of Hollywood would do there?

And what's more economic conquest, McDonalds, which you can live without, or oil?

Riot. Laughing Yeah, they're all over the place. Look, look, the people have turned their backs on their pride as a nation and its trampled sovereignty because STAR-SPANGLED BURGERS have arrived! They're voting with their wallets, their very tattered wallets... enough of them to keep one restaurant open to the middle class in a breakaway province in a slow-motion civil war. God bless America, eh?

"How well do you think a Fredrick's of Hollywood would do there?" Hell, comparatively speaking, "MaDonal" is Fredrick's of Hollywood. That's kind of the point.

Yeah, except the people who actually have to live under the military dictatorship you prop up with piano wire puppet strings, sure. Typical. "Everybody wins" is Beltwayese for "We get what we want; f*ck the peons".

Hey, when I'm wrong, I admit it.
Eastbay, you're absolutely correct on the MaDonal thing. I was reading articles about it, which were referring to it as McDonals and I didn't notice the difference in names. So, I guess Iraqis have a few more years to wait to taste the best tasting cheap artificial substances science can come up with. {Text deleted per COC=FL}
Of course, KFC on the other hand, really is officially there.

Sure, why not? After all, our invasion of Afghanistan's done wonders for the heroin trade there the Taliban cut off.

Don't think of leaving AFGHANISTAN or IRAQ!
The US is trapped there for a very long time!
But the present war mongers in the Pentagon are not complaining either!
For them a protracted war is good money in their pockets.
A war won quickly with the boys returning home quickly is a complet nonsense! A total aberation to be avoided at any cost of course!!
But that's only one side of the coin!
The other side is even dirtier, it concerns the booming opium business of AFGHANISTAN.
90% of the profits made from the opium trade are made out of AFGHANISTAN and guess by who ???
Those with the means and tools to get the stuff out of the country without questioning.
Guess who are those brave discret patriots ??
During the russian period in AFGHANISTAN it was shared between the Red Army and the dear KGB, but the drug was delivered on time without any interfering to MOSCOW by full loads of military trucks with all the necessary ausweiss one could dream of!!!
Whenever there is a lot of dirty unaccounted money to grab I have always seen the same miracle of a spontaneous fraternity of the brave patriots, whatever their flag of the time!!!
Further than that the western coalition has offered itself a mock government where all the war lords of AFGHANISTAN are dressed in dark suit staging our democratic comedy to their best!!
And they are bloody good at it as long as our taxpayers money goes on ,flowing in, uninterrupted ,of course!!!
