Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

Russia would cross "a red line for the United States of America" if it were to base nuclear capable bombers in Cuba, a top US air force officer warned on Tuesday.

"If they did I think we should stand strong and indicate that is something that crosses a threshold, crosses a red line for the United States of America," said General Norton Schwartz, nominated to be the air force's chief of staff.

He was referring to a Russian news report that said the military is thinking of flying long-range bombers to Cuba on a regular basis.

It was unclear from the report whether that would involve permanent basing of nuclear bombers in Cuba, or just use of the island as a refueling stop.

In his confirmation hearing to become the air force's chief of staff, Schwartz was asked what he would recommend if Russia were to base nuclear capable bombers in Cuba.

"I would certainly offer the best military advice that we engage the Russians not to pursue that approach," he said.

The newspaper Iszvestia on Monday cited an unnamed senior Russian air force official in Moscow as saying that Russia may start regular flights by long-range bombers to Cuba in response to US plans to install a missile defense system in eastern Europe.

Some of you people truly live in an alternate universe. Please tell me what country could "toast" the U.S. without facing total annihilation?

If this were to happen, we would see just how much Obama is NOT a JFK. We would be doomed if this happens if/when Obama is President.

I'll take this one KevO, if you don't mind.

China, Russia, Japan, even England...simply by refusing to buy any more of our debt. If they started selling, who's going to buy? Our bankers got us by the balls.

I wonder how long China's economy would last without flooding Walmart with billions of dollars in consumer products?

Now would not be a good time for global economy if the U.S. were to go bankrupt. Individuals that are hell bent on this happening will have to wait a little while longer: missle shield or not.

Sorry kevo, history indicates if you cave to Russia, you become their butt buddies. Do you see former Warsaw pact countries trying to go back to Russia?

The empire of the united states is dying. See if for what it it. Each day that passes the u.s weakens while it's enemies which by the way most of them have been created by poor foreign policies, grow stronger.(Russia, China etc) What happens after it comes down i'm not 100% sure.

We shall see.

China will use the debt bomb someday, a day of their choosing, when they are willing to take a hit to their own economy. Since the US is fast heading into a depression that day may be sooner than you think. The world is about to change in a very big way and the last people I want in charge are those who hate Americans, but I don't get to make that choice... nor do you.

Current US policy may result in situation, where total nuclear annihilation of few countries (US included) or indeed total global nuclear annihilation may be the only way forward left.

A) The US isn't China's biggest customer. The EU is. So that ameliorates part of the problem.

B) Suppose China has, or is close to reaching, a point where it considers its infrastructure established and it can start consuming its own goods instead of selling them for next to nothing to us? Japan eventually did, and we had to adapt. Suppose they start divesting themselves of US assets partly because they're increasingly worthless and partly to circumscribe the US's ability to project power?

Ding! Toast. Pass the butter.

You know, I can't think of a country on Earth that has had better press than the US, or more automatic ability to smooth the way for itself based on sheer charisma. For centuries, it's been the good looking guy who enters the ball with all eyes on him, and everyone apologizes to him when HE steps on THEIR toes. With a hand like that, you really have to work hard to make people hate you. Well, you have. But the good news is, if you stop acting like jerks all over the world, tying bags of your sh!t around people's necks to prove to them your determination that it doesn't stink like everyone else's, then all that natural "awwww" power comes back into play for you and all (or much) is forgiven.

Unfortunately, even Obama-nother-country strikes me as a bit of a warhead, relatively speaking.

China's 10% GDP growth is not driven by WallMart, it is driven by domestic consumption. Do some basic math, how much *growth* has there been in the consumption of Chinese exports in the west. It has been saturated for at least 10 years. The big surge was in the 80s.

As for some pinhead US general trash talking, well if it is good enough for the US to ring Russia with missiles and NATO bases then it is good enough for Russia to do the same to the US. God didn't appoint the US to be masters of the universe. If you don't like the taste of your own medicine then don't dish it out.

If the US is toasted, it really isn't going to matter who else faces total annihilation. Assuming that such an attack would be done by only one country is short-sighted given the number of countries the US has p*ssed off!
