Stronger Dolly forces Texas refining cuts
| Quote: | Valero Energy Corp said the loss of crude supply, because tankers could not move through the Houston Ship Channel, led the company to reduce production between 10 percent and 20 percent at its refineries in Houston and Port Arthur, Texas.
The port serving the major refining centre of Corpus Christi, Texas, was also closed to ship traffic, although refineries served by that waterway said operations were continuing.
U.S. crude oil futures were unaffected by the Category 2 hurricane packing winds of 100 miles per hour (160 kph). Oil prices fell slightly, extending a big two-week decline, after a U.S. government report reinforced concerns that high prices and economic turmoil were slashing into energy demand. | link |

Definitely not a "drought buster" for us, though counties to the east and south of us are under a flash flood warning.
Rain should end tomorrow here. Oh well! At least we got a little... _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow..." - jboogy |

My sister, who lives in Harlingen, called. The storm was overhead for about four hours. They have standing water in their yard, but it didn't get into the house. Their barn, a few miles away, has four feet of standing water in it (they had moved their horses to a friend's pasture on high ground. They have no power, don't know when they will get power. Her husband, a captain in the H. Fire Dept., just happened to be on vacation. After lunch today (at her in-laws who still have power), they were going to barbeque the meat they have left in their kitchen freezer. _________________ "RRrrruuuunnnn!!!" ~Apocalypto |

Yeah, it's pretty bad down there, but last I saw, few injuries and no fatalities reported. _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow..." - jboogy |

I'm glad all of out Texas folks have survived to face peak oil along with the rest of us.
Take a look at that little fist like blob in the Atlantic Infrared loop about 12 miles east of Hispaniola. It is associated with a wave. I have'nt found any word on it. 97L is gone and they said that would recurve. |

Ludi glad to hear you are getting some rain.
Nothing quite like a nice rain after a long drought, there is something quite spiritual to it. |

Oil is going to jump big tomorrow night. That's aiming for major oil areas...
Lets hope it doesn't get to strong. _________________ "Oil is going up because we use too much oil, and the capacity to replace reserves is dwindling"

| Quote: | GULF OF MEXICO:
Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue across the Northeast Gulf of Mexico as a surface trough moves southward into the area. This trough is expected to become a closed low pressure system with a slim chance for development as a tropical depression. Development as a significant tropical cyclone is unlikely as the system progresses westward Monday and Tuesday. WWT will continue to monitor the progress of the trough.
CARIBBEAN SEA:
A tropical wave is noted along 78W south of 21N and moving westward at 10-15 knots. Showers and thunderstorms are not associated with the wave as it is in an area devoid of deep layered moisture. Tropical development is not expected.
Isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are noted over Puerto Rico. An upper level high is ushering in moisture to the area. Tropical development is unfavorable.
ATLANTIC OCEAN:
A tropical wave along 43W south of 23N is moving westward at 15-20 knots. A 1010mb low is noted along the wave axis near 18N with clusters of thunderstorms around the low. Slow development is possible with the system as it moves over slightly warmer waters. However, the development is not expected to last long due to unfavorable upper level winds.
A tropical wave near 30W south of 15N is progressing westward at 15-20 knots. There are no signs of circulation at this moment. However, the environment appears marginally favorable for slow development during the next few days. In the meantime, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are noted from 28W-32W and 10N-13N.
Elsewhere, tropical cyclone development is not expected through Sunday. | Wilkens Weather subscription required _________________ There will come a day when we would have wished to do a little evil for a greater good. |

Potential all over. 90L, 91L, 99L
Suppose Israel gets happy just about the time we get cat 3 in the Gulf oil production. The one in the Gulf probably has no time to develop, but the one by antilles heading west has plenty of time if not ideal conditions. |

disclaimer: I am not a pro-meteorologist all statements are speculative.
I am going to get started posting on 91L.
I think it will organize more quickly than they currently believe and eventually be stronger than they expect. The model projections for track seem right. Central to North Texas coast. The question of strength is important as it will be passing over basically all of the Gulf Oil Infrastructure and probably make landfall over some refineries. |

I was pleased to see that some of those folks in the southern US were getting some rain. Hopefully that will ease some of their drought. If Invest 91 just remains a small disturbance, that would be good, it has some potential to bring some much-needed rain to Texas.
I'm sure any oil tanker traffic is getting slowed down by this weather nevertheless. _________________ About my avatar: Guess. |
