Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

From what I've read/watched, I think his eventual ideal is to get rid of federal income tax completely. Numbers I remember being thrown around were estimating that only 1/3rd of the federal government's budget comes from income tax, and if the debt were eventually eliminated (getting rid of interest payments), defense budget was cut tremendously, and various other departments were reduced or eliminated as well as seemed appropriate, then there would be no need for federal income tax at all.
I know he'd eliminate, or try to, the income tax. But there are other taxes right? Anyway, I meant, what would be the size of the government? 3% (of GDP)? 4%? etc. It's roughly 20% now, but I'm not sure if that includes all Medicare, Medicaid and SS, does it? _________________ I want to put out the fires of Hell, and burn down the rewards of Paradise. I think most of Paul's views wouldn't be able to be acted upon if he were to be elected President since the entire congress wouldn't also become libertarian. He may be able to get a strong backing for tax cuts and a few other of his ideas. One of the more important ones though, with the withdrawal of troops in Iraq, would be well within his power. I also think he would veto any law that seriously infringes on consitutional rights, which is a large concern of mine. The only question is if he would veto anywhere where he would issue a "no" vote. I really don't think he believes the President should exercise that much power, so laws pertaining to PO and ACC could get passed through if the crises are clearly visible. I also think that having differing opinions is a good thing for government. The Dems and Repubs are getting too close for comfort, and really at times it is pretty much just like "Party in power" and "party in opposition" that cause the views of the parties to differ.

I’d reduce taxes eighty-percent if I had the size of government I wanted. The bigger job is reducing the size of government.
It's not in terms of GDP or anything, but still is a pretty good rough estimate of his preferences.

I've heard it said elsewhere, and it makes sense, that even if he weren't able to accomplish much directly, he'd have the position to get his views publicized far more than he can right now, and be taken far more seriously, and that could have a huge effect on the 2010 or 2012 congressional elections, which is very important on its own.

I changed my stance on Ron Paul. I grew personally. I voted for him. _________________ "Crush the Cornucopians, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women".
