I mean they're talking within 100 years, 2 maybe within 15 years and 2 is bad enough and that they say that is certain to happen - I guess due to thermal inertia (what we have now is a product of the 70's - 2008 emissions will take effect around 2035) but with the rate of acceleration we could, if these bods know what they're on about of course, see 4 degrees by 2060 if not sooner.

There's a big difference between " could " and will. Nobody was predicting in 1998 that it "could " get colder, but that is exactly what has happened since then.

It is correct to point out that Watson, the former head of the IPCC, could be wrong. But it is incorrect and illogical to assume that any error of his would necessarily be in our favor.
As humans, we always want to view uncertainty as being a basis for hope. It can be that, but we should remember that uncertainty works in both directions.
He could very easily be wrong that it will only be four degrees. It could well be much higher than that. The probability that he is very wrong in the other direction are vanishingly small.
But if you emotionally need to hold on to the slim possibility that he could happen to be wrong in a direction that will mean the least harm to ourselves and our children, I certainly understand.
But now having stated your emotional needs, perhaps you can simmer down for a bit while those able to emotionally handle a wider range of possibilities discuss the implications.

Good idea, mos, but where do you see things being more survivable and how fast do you see things changing?
I see pretty wide variations on predictions for particular areas (though pretty much everyone does say the West and SW will continue to get dryer and hotter).
Florida is going to be waterworld, and much of the most populated parts of the East Coast will also be inundated or threatened.
I think a lot of folks are going to start flocking to the MidWest in spite of our backward ways, but the Western drying could spread east.
The main problem with Canada is that it's filled with Canadians
Actually, I think Canada is soon going to start putting up a wall along its border to keep us pesky Americans out, just as we are doing with Mexico and Mexicans.

Especialy if you remove the single blip year of 1998 from the data set.

In my location, at least, most days run 4 deg F warmer than average year-round now, than when I first came here in 1968. Sometimes 10 deg warmer or even more.
