Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Seeing as how the world could probably sustain at least 10x as many vegetarians or near vegetarians than meat eaters I'd expect "die-offers" to be vegetarians, if not vegans, but I've been wrong before. Thought I'd start a poll.
I'm "near-vegetarian" by the way. Was vegan for three years but I really like cheese. I have fish (from Alaska) about once or twice a month. I'm definitely not one to push moral imperatives but it does seem to be that anyone truly serious about "preserving carrying capacity" would be aware that factory farming is one of, if not the, main sources of environmental destruction out there (at least in the United States) right now.
Someday I'd like to have my own farm with milk goats & maybe chickens to have on holidays and/or special occasions (and feed to the guard dogs I hope to acquire). In the meantime I mostly abstain. _________________ My PO Amazon store (shameless plug).

While it is true I can eat all the meat I like, it is also true that I have cut back on the quantity and quality of the meats I consume. Rather than ribeye every night, there are considerably more beans and grains in my diet as I learn methods of storing and preparing these foods. Beef consumption has moved more towards ground beef in the form of meatballs, meat sauce, and hamburgers topped with goods from the garden. Fresh meats are still on the menu from time to time, but I experiment with what I have canned. Chicken is a favorite dish, particularly fried. Keeping chicken in a state it can be deep fried requires a freezer. As my electricity is limited, so is my freezer space. Fried chicken takes a back seat to opening a jar of chicken and making dumplings.
I have tomorrow off. I think it is a fine time to make some potato salad, fire up the grill, get a couple of ribeye steaks, some beer... _________________ If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--for ever."

I won't vote in the poll because there is not an option for me. "Very rarely" is too rare enough but I do not eat as much meat as I want, as that seems to imply eating it nearly everyday.
I used to eat meat constantly when I was in HS a few years ago because 1) meat was a "necessary" part of school lunches and 2) my parents would have meat for dinner nearly everyday. As I've started to live away from them, I've adapted to less meat. A few months ago, for a period of about 3-4 months, I had probably only eaten a couple of lbs of meat in all.
However, lately I've been biking. In order to get the protein that I need to build muscle (which I'll need for farming and gardening in the future as well as transport), I must eat meat fairly regularly. I'd say less than a lb a week now. Probably 2-3 ounces of meat whenever I do eat it. And that's probably 4-5 times a week. I hope to be able to get that down to 2-3 days a week, cutting my consumption in halve.
Although with Ramadan and NFL season kicking off in Sept. I'm sure I'll go back to hotdogs and/or burgers on Sundays. Add in a bag of Doritos and it's a normal American Sunday. _________________ Riches are not from abundance of worldly goods, but from a contented mind.

Hmmmmm... who told you that nonsense?
I bike 50 to 100 miles a week and NEVER eat meat. In fact, I ride the 20 mile r/t to the gym where I lift weights for 75 minutes. I just wanted to point out biking (and weightlifting) do NOT require meat eating.
I'm 54, 6'0, 200 lbs, with about 17% body fat. I bench 280. 200 for 15 reps. You can get all the protein you need elsewhere. Just a friendly tip. _________________ Got Dharma?

What about those of us who grow most of our own meat?
no option for us. _________________ "By the time individuals discover that remaining resources will not be adequate for the next generation, the next generation has already been born. " David Price

Oh, I certainly know that. But past month I had two classes and work nearly everyday. So I'd have to leave by 730 am to bike, take the bus, sit in class for 3 and a half hours, then work for 6 hours, bike home. In all, I'm outside the house for more than half the day. Then I'd have to get to sleep by 10 if I wanna be rested by 5 for prayer. Not much time between 8 when I get home and 10 when I slept to eat. So I'd have to throw in some meat for quick protein.
With fall session coming up, I'll be getting fewer hours at work so I'll have more time to cook without losing too much study and prep time. Then I'll lose some chicken (can't get rid of all of it; too tasty and cheap) and get beans and more rice. _________________ Riches are not from abundance of worldly goods, but from a contented mind.

Tonight we dine on a delicious leg of lamb that was born this past February. _________________ "The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close. In its place we are entering a period of consequences…"

Very rarely. We buy a meat item at the store maybe once a month. Eat meat at restaurants sometimes. Eat our own chickens sometimes. _________________ "...powerdown so soft and fluffy you'll think you're living in a pillow." - jboogy

As much as I feel like. Compared to ten years ago, significantly less, and virtually no red meat. Occasionally a few slices of Bresaola. No idea why as I don't consciously moderate my diet. Since moving to Spain 2 years ago my fish consumption has increased a lot - Tonights supper, Lenguado a la marinara, mixed salad, 2 glasses of white wine, water and an expresso.

Ive no idea what that means.. if you weigh 200lbs , your bench weighs 80? And who are the 15 representatives? And what have they got to do with it?

Nothing at all other than I'm getting weaker each year since I stopped lifting heavy weights. However, the point I was trying to make is that it's from age, and NOT lifting as heavy as possible rather than from the vegetarian diet. Is that helpful? _________________ Got Dharma?
