I feel like I'm in a bad slasher movie. Every time I think there's some small chance of hope the damn zombie comes back to life and kills again.

Saw this unfolding years ago.
NEPA is next - under Part 1506.11 (CFR 40) - the emergency clause.

Bush is so freaking predictable, right down to the last days of his administration, keeping it by the playbook, riding the approval rating down into the single digits with an arrogant smile along the way.

I'm as upset about the environment as anybody, but did you guys really think we were going to stop burning fossil fuels in order to save the polar bears?

We like our lights...our cars...and our food.
Too bad - that is just the way it goes.

And, now this, looking to the past for today's problem solutions,from Greenourscene.com:

The Bush administration is set to issue a regulation that would enshrine the coal mining practice of mountaintop removal. The technique involves blasting off the tops of mountains and dumping the rubble into valleys and streams.
It has been used in Appalachian coal country for 20 years under a cloud of legal and regulatory confusion.
The new rule would allow the practice to continue and expand, providing only that mine operators minimize the debris and cause the least environmental harm, although those terms are not clearly defined and to some extent merely restate existing law.
The Office of Surface Mining in the Interior Department drafted the rule, which will be subject to a 60-day comment period and could be revised, although officials indicated that it was not likely to be changed substantially."
No coincidence. It all seems quite in context for an administration mired in the past. Coal is going to king again, it seems.
This other article demonstrates that too, from CNN Money:
"Bush wants more coal-fired electricity
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) -- President Bush says he's using his last six months in office to push new energy plans that include electricity from coal.
Reliable sources of electricity must be part of a strong economy, and "there is no more reliable source of electricity than coal," Bush said in a speech Thursday to the West Virginia Coal Association gathered at The Greenbrier Resort.
He said promoting a variety of energy sources will be part of the "sprint to the finish" he plans for his presidency. |
