Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

You may have noticed a significant number of products on the APMEX.com website are listed as “Out of Stock” right now. This stock shortage coincides with a low price for the precious metals we provide investors and collectors across the nation.

Most, if not all, dealers are experiencing temporary shortages right now. This blog post will address the conditions leading up to this shortage situation, help to ease your concerns and provide you with great alternative products for you to take advantage of the current low price market.

Completely out of Krugerrands and Silver Eagles.

They do not sell what they do not have. Maybe they do not sell low what they bought high either? I do not know what their stock turnaround time is, but that price move was a real cliff.

I don't know about you guys, but silver just hit my buy point. You can lock in prices at www.bulliondirect.com.

The price fixing will not hold up for much longer.

APMEX probably does not want to take a loss on the gold they bought at $950.

So they tell you they are out.

Even mom and pop coin stores are hedged. Dealers make their money on the spread.

Wow, silver just dropped like a stone in the past 30 minutes. It's at $13.25 now.

...And yet they seem to be out. Seems like a contradiction of supply and demand.

I just bought 10 1oz Silver Eagles and a 10oz silver bar from APMEX so we will see when it arrives. Smile I have been putting about $400-800 a month towards something PO related and silver was just looking too good.

Arsenal.

Next month... More Ammo. Smile

I wonder if it's related to minting capacity. Clearly APMEX could place an order on NYMEX for however much gold they want and take physical delivery. They couldn't get eagles or Krugerands that way, but they could make their house brand rounds.

There's no reason that selling at this price should be a particular problem for them either. Whatever they sell they can easily hedge in the spot or futures markets.

Unless....

Personally, in the past few weeks I have become a firm believer in serious manipulation of the PM, especially silver, markets. Prices are seriously out of whack in regards to physical supply.

Maybe I should buy some options contracts and see if I can actually take delivery.

I think if people were welshing on their options contracts, someone would be talking about it. Unless your an awfully big player, I suspect one contract would be adequate. The NYMEX contract is for 5,000 ounces.

I wonder if part of this is banks lending out more of their reserves to try to generate cashflow? The fact that the lease rates are in the red is a good indication that they're lent out to the max. The other thing they could be doing that would cause this is if they were shorting metals without hedging. Typically when a bank sells metals as part of a metal lease, it would buy a hedging contract to rebuy the metals at a future date. It creates more contango in the market, but it doesn't affect the overall price. If they were desperate for cash and were either hedging incompletely or not at all, then that would certainly drive the market down.

I've got a little extra cash I was thinking about converting to silver coin for a rainy day. Is APMEX a good company to deal with for buying such things? I've been to their website and it looks like they do sell physical coins, just wondering about their reputation. Was thinking about getting some silver eagles. Any other sites that people prefer? Is this the best way to buy coins or are there other types that would work as well for long term value storage?

Pardon my ignorance... trying to do some background research before asking, but school is also keeping me very busy with reading...

So, to save time, he handily condenses the relevant statistics by saying, "Estimates on 'above ground' silver, in refined, deliverable form have ranged from 300 million ounces to 1 billion ounces

*snip*

Then, as I suggest, combine all that with an estimated billion ounces of silver sold naked short (the actual silver doesn't exist) in "paper silver" transactions, plus what Mr. Cook calls a "runaway market when the short sellers on the commodity exchanges are trying to cover, and the nonexistent silver in pool accounts is being bought back," with huge additional demand coming from "shell-shocked industrial users, attempting to stockpile silver to keep their doors open, and inflation-ravaged investors pouring in as the price rises", and suddenly the case for buying silver now is compelling!

Daily Reckoning article

Now I'll admit that I'm no Paul Volker, but that looks to me like somwhere between 50-77% of the silver on the market doesn't actually exist...
