Yeah, I can see all the points you guys have made. The problem with the future is it is a blank space waiting to be filled up. There's always some uncertainty involved and that tends to make me and others feel insecure about it, Its like your driving on a highway towards dark and threatening towers of clouds even though the sun is still pleasantly smiling through your windshield. Once you pass through the storm and look behind it in the rear view mirror it seems less timid. I can only hope for the best and that maybe one day I can look behind at these times with less anxiety

When I was a young man there was a saying I was fond of, "Live Fast, Die Young, Leave a Good Looking Corpse". Despite my best efforts crashing several motorcycles and taking far too many drugs and alcohol in a given evening, I managed to survive, and my corpse won't be all that good looking now.
Nobody here really knows exactly how its all going to play itself out. Without doubt though, tomorrow's world will look a little less like today than today did. What you can HOPE for is to figure out how you will negotiate the transition from today to tomorrow in your own life. This gives us all something to shoot for each day.
You do sound young though, so worst case scenario, Live Fast, Die Young, Leave a Good Looking Corpse.

I would echo what Blu has said here, and add that we'll always have uncertainties, Kristen. None of us knows what hardships or surprises we'll have to face in our lifetime. That's true no matter what point in history your lifetime falls in. It's also true that some people live a relatively charmed life, while others have much hardship, but more often it's a combination of the two.
I agree with you, Kristen, that life is like a big, blank slate. However, you have much power to fill it in the way you'd like to. Think about what's important to you and work towards it; press on even when you feel a bit discouraged. Sure, there are things that are out of our control (collectively), but when you picture that blank slate and how differently it could be filled up depending on the person and his or her own beliefs/efforts, well, there's a lot of room for variance, isn't there?

For me, hope, and a positive outlook, seem to come focusing on what I can do right now to make my life better. If I'm tired, then I rest a bit, or sick, then I do all I can to recover. On a normal day, I mentally check off what is on my immediate list to do, and the sensible priorities of those things. Then, I have an immediate goal for the day. If I'm able to achieve something toward that goal, or for something further down the list, then I have reason to feel good about it. If not, then I have food for thought on planning the next day, which gives an opportunity for tomorrow to be better.
My glass may only be half full, but I can exult in having half a glass! And the opportunity to find a way to fill it up. The creative challenge to find the answers is fun. _________________ Local fix-it guy..

We're in the end of October, almost into November. This can be a very dark time of the year. I find myself getting gloomy even when we haven't had a financial collapse.

I know what you mean Revi, once winter comes up here in MN, you feel trapped inside a version of Hades with fluorescent lights. I know tanning is the devil and causes skin cancer, but once or twice a month in the winter time can actually make you feel a little bit better. Something about that warm feeling on your skin once you're done is like a few minutes of summer.
