Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Obama pledges support for new auto technology
Quote:
Barack Obama spoke Monday about the need to retool Michigan's empty factories to make alternative energy products such as wind turbines and solar panels and said he'd put billions into helping auto manufacturers make more fuel-efficient cars.
He told a crowd of more than 1,000 people at the Lansing Center that he'd provide $4 billion in loans and tax credits to American auto plants and manufacturers to switch factories to build highly fuel-efficient cars, then entice more people to buy them with a $7,000 federal tax credit.
"That's how we'll not only protect our auto industry and our auto workers, but help them thrive in a 21st century economy," the Democratic presidential candidate said. "We will help states like Michigan build the fuel-efficient cars we need, and we will get 1 million 150-mile-per-gallon plug-in hybrids on our roads within six years."

He's also gonna buy everyone a free 5 acres of land, a half gallon of ice cream & free tickets to Batman 16. He's some kind of super president! A new economic system is born! How does he do it? _________________ People first, then things, then dollars.

He's too late. We should have done that years and years ago! Now we can't afford to do it. _________________ Everybody thinks they're righteous! Adam Baldwin "Jayne" Firefly/Serenity

Here is Obama's full speech which was endorsed by Pickens:
Quote:
Hours later, Pickens’ successful PR team sent out a statement from the oil man. “I’m strongly encouraged by Senator Obama’s speech on America’s energy future. Foreign oil is killing our economy and putting our nation at risk,” the statement reads. “When I started this campaign my goal was to make this the biggest issue in the coming election and the top priority to be addressed in the first hundred days of the next administration. This issue is clearly moving up in the priority of political debate; Senator Obama’s statement is an indication that is what is indeed happening. I will continue to push this as a priority for the rest of the year.”
His speech starts 5 paragraphs down under the heading:
Quote:
As Prepared for Delivery
We meet at a moment when this country is facing a set of challenges greater than any we’ve seen in generations. Right now, our brave men and women in uniform are fighting two different wars while terrorists plot their next attack. Our changing climate is placing our planet in peril. Our economy is in turmoil and our families are struggling with rising costs and falling incomes; with lost jobs and lost homes and lost faith in the American Dream. And for too long, our leaders in Washington have been unwilling or unable to do anything about it.

Better late than never.
And everyone was quick to attack Romney when he proposed this exact same plan six months ago. _________________ "www.peakoil.com is the Myspace of the Apocalypse."

Obama is also going to start selling the oil from the strategic petroleum reserve now to increase the supply of oil and lower gas prices......
And Obama has promised to give every "working family" one thousand buckaroos!!!!
Good thing the man doesn't pander.....just imagine the kinds of promises he'd be making if he was one of those lying politicians who pander to the voters. _________________ "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -- George Orwell

The only support the auto industry needs is the cold hard reality that consumers don't want their gas guzzling vehicles.
Detroit can make the choice to change now, or go out of business so that companies like Commuter Cars, Tesla Motors, AC Propulsion, Loremo, Accelerated Composites, and others can replace them.
Propping up the automakers any further is just stupid, when they especially refuse to build these products in the first place.
Look up the 1983 Volvo LCP2000, 1992 GM Ultralite, 1970s Viking sports cars from the VRI at WWU, 1999 Ford Prodigy, 2000 GM Precept, 1998 Dodge Intrepid ESX2, to get an idea of what can be done without the consumer sacrificing anything: 80+ mpg. And it could have been done nearly 30 years ago.
They deserve to go out of business. What they've done is simply criminal.
But, I suppose competition isn't welcome as that has the habit of reducing profits for big business and has the negative side effect(as far as our government is concerned) of reducing centralized control. So they want to prop the assholes up some more; it's more convenient than a real solution and further continues status quo. Continue status quo long enough, and the opportunity for change will have permanently passed as we slide down the other end of Hubbert's curve... _________________ The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the old growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder. ~Thomas Jefferson

HEV sales are approaching 200k/year anyway so this is a revelation how? Toyota begins marketing PHEV Prii in 2010.
Heard that O-Bomb wants all American production to be FFV. A FlexFuel PHEV? With solar panels to run the AC, too?
Watched some piece on PBS about the future of autos with the guys from Car Talk. Mostly I registered how the collective energy savings from everything they looked at was probably canceled out by the cost of flying these two Beantowners to Detroit-Iceland-Kalifornia...the Tesla shop they looked at was about the size of a small airport hanger. Humble beginnings! _________________ Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi
