Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

cualcrees,
There are lots of things you can do to prepare with almost nothing. If there is any land available for you to use, improve it with a cover crop this winter, to plow down next spring. Look for any containers you can find free to store things. plastic buckets from construction sites, used lumber for shelves, and seeds (that you can save from plants) will store well in old bottles if you dry them well. Drying food should work well in Mexico, as is done with Cayenne peppers here. Any well dried grains you can grow will store well in buckets or barrels, if they can be sealed.
Sorry that I don't know more about your country so I could offer better ideas. _________________ Local fix-it guy..

What changes do you want to do with your life now that you know about PO?
3. Although i now work in software, i studied electronics in my early years. I resumed that back (very slowly ) and i was going to build myself a solar system, but i had a bad accident few months ago, so that has been postponed.
4. I built a simple but efficient solar oven to heat up whatever.
Thank you very much for all your answers, please continue, it helps me to get new ideas of things I should also try. But I would like to know, Cochise, how did you built your solar oven and how much money have you saved by this?
And how complicated is your proyect of your own solar system for us humans to do? I would love to be able to build my own.

Well, I started driving less and slower. I'm currently getting 50+ mpg. But mostly I use the train, so that's even better.
Unlike people in the site, I quit my job. I'm moving to the UK (most heavily populated country in Europe. Funny, and intelligent of me...) in order to finish my education. I'm studying Applied Environmental Economics, starting next September.
I'm also cutting down on meat, coffee and started exercising a bit. The girlfriend is moving to the UK with me, so I'm trying to pass the PO message to her. So far, no luck.

Four years ago we purposefully made a move from our location in central Washington (hot dry desert - lots of land and room) to the coastal pacific northwest (less land now but weather is milder and more water). In making the move, I took a job that was lower paying but got me where I wanted to be and they are sooooo happy to have me there that I feel content my job is in no jeopardy for the foreseeable future. In addition, to purposefully relocating - we also purposefully downsized the amount of land and house that we had - to something more manageable and efficient. Only regret I have is that we probably went too far down on land size and I am aching to buy a few more acres of land. We made improvements to the house to make it snug and sturdy for many many years. Using cash to invest in hard useable assets. We have always had extensive food production gardens - but in the past four years we kicked it up one more notch and are now 100% self sufficient on vegetables and about 40% self sufficient on fruits. Working to improve the fruit self sufficiency.
We live a prepared life and take pleasure in providing for ourselves... that has not changed but serves us well. We have changed where we are located in order to ensure that is possible in a world of declining resources and volatile climate changes. _________________ Check out Our Modern "Victory Garden" - http://www.freewebs.com/kitsapfreedomgardener/

I have learned so much since finding out about peak oil. I think that's where my life has changed. And I've gotten to do things I never would have (like slaughter a pig, or spin my own yarn). And of course, meeting all of you fine people.
But I do hypermile now, and eat locally, and take a lot better care of myself. _________________ Conservation is conservative
