Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

i was going to suggest this boat has multiple missions, including that of listening to American forces in the Iraq area (electromagnetic spectrum capture, so they can get some data about radar, communications, identification friend or foe (IFF), etc.)

sort of like police listening to everybody's cell phone & radar detectors, on a busy highway.

but i thought i better look at a map.

so Russia is going through the Mediterranean, not the Indian Ocean. well, Russia will be able to listen to ... Greece ? and i guess, Israel.

i wonder if Israel & the US switch to a different set of frequencies under this circumstance, so as not to give away the "family jewels", electronic warfare wise.

i also wonder if Russian newspapers will have photos of Russian troops giving candy to Syrian children.

Carriers have long been used as a "projection of power" so this just shows Russia is continuing to project power, make a statement, close to home. Its drawn its read line and is pulling back the facade of American tough talk in that area.

They are going to use the Georgian incident to get a port in Syria now and use this as an excuse to further military/economic ties with Israel. All to US disdain.

Further, as far as I can tell, no one has any other carriers in that area to make an "opposing statement".

Also, I don't think the Russians are worried about us sinking one of their carriers. They would just send a nuke into D.C. with a sub off the coast.

Its probably a political statement for mostly domestic consumption. I wish everyone would lay off this cold war hysteria. Its playing into domestic US presidential politics. The US and poland are talking about putting their missle shield in their, so the Russians are using the Syrians for the same effect. The US and Russia are in no danger of direct confrontation. Its all grandstanding, playing to the mob back home.

The US has more than enough domestic production, not to mention Canadian and Mexican sources to fuel its military. Not to mention coal liquefaction, and biofuel production.

And what makes you think we're that eager to help you push the world to the brink of destruction? Nah, if you're doing to do that, do it yourselves.

Nickel,
I am not a proper American, neither am I an American of any sort at all, but I think, I can suggest an explanation here.

The truth is that you [Canadian] have nothing whatsoever to say in that respect.

Your choices are restricted by US policy.

You are endorsing all sort of destruction policies because Big Americans want you to do it and you must obey.
You (and those poor Mexican souls and few others) are just pawns of US policy, you like it or not.

That is not an attempt to undermine Canada etc.

After all once Last Great War is over it may be Canada's wilderness, what will provide the last refuge for surviving humankind on North American continent.

I'm Canadian as well. The comment wasnt about anything political, but rather an observation that the US military has sufficient access to fossil fuels to power itself. Sources in Canada and Mexico are available simply because another great power isnt able to embargo them. It isnt to imply they're available because Canada and Mexico are eager to offer them to the US military because they like them.

Its an observation of basic strategic facts, meant to dispel the ignorance of previous comments.
