Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

"Iran has lost the chance to dominate Iraq". What drivel. Sort of like NATO is winning in Afghanistan. With a few more attacks like the one that killed over 76 civilians a few days ago, NATO's victory is secure. Then its on to victory over evil Russia and its "slaughter of innocent Georgian civilians" (currently the bodies are being placed for filming from the ice truck). This planet will know no peace as long NATO crusaders are rampaging with their "good will".

Fixed that for ya!

Those with the dream are always disappointed. The victorious coalition breaks apart. The defeated refuse to play the role assigned to them. New powers emerge that were not part of the coalition. Anyone may have ideals and visions. The reality of the world order is that there are profound divergences of interest in a world where distrust is a natural and reasonable response to reality. In the end, ideals and visions vanish in a new round of geopolitical conflict.

I tend to agree with you, though I'm not sure if you read the article. The point is that the US has been antagonizing Russia for a long time, but they're stronger than in the past and are displaying it for the region to take note of. The article further states that "Russia created a new reality with the conflict in Georgia, and the United States is willing to let the politics of that new reality unfold."

The United States is so powerful that, in the long run, it has created an imbalance in the global system. In the short run, however, it is so off balance that it has few, if any, military resources to deal with challenges elsewhere. That means that the United States remains the dominant power in the long run but it cannot exercise that power in the short run. This creates a window of opportunity for other countries to act.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Russia is so powerful that, in the short run, it can safely invade small, defenseless neighboring countries to steal their land and resources. In the long run, however, Russia risks restarting a Cold War with the west. Cool

Scapegoating is fun. And so useful in the end, too! It's nice to feel morally superior. Helps fill your gas tank and your belly, and protects from zombie hordes.

One thing I don't get at all -

Why the hell is Israel sticking its big nose in Georgia?

Looks like everyone is showing their hand. Israel wants to divert attention from its (IMO) inevitable attack on Iran. Israel is going to be going all in - it wants everybody else to be going all in too.

And Georgia would have been a way into Iran that would not have required overflight of Iraq.

This is one angle that many seem to be ignoring. Yes, Georgia
is a lot closer to Iran than Israel is. If Israeli jets fly all the way
to Iran to deliver their payload simply flying into Georgia to
land and reload would have been a lot easier than mid air refueling on a flight back to Israel.

I understand the Russians took out all of the Georgian military
air bases even though Georgia had only a few jets. Maybe
the Russians were thinking the same thing.
