I think representative democracy is a form of government which reflects the state, culture and attitudes of society. Only dumb people can elect dumb leaders. It's universal rule and elected MPs really make decision based on their own ignorance, but it's not the worse thing. They generally don't learn - it's a curse of this system. They can't discuss because in general they don't know basics of the matter for which they pass laws.
It's much easier to gain from someone's stupidity when one thinks it was a good job then to buy a politician. And it's the way some of the special interests work. Without it benefits and money wouldn't matter.

Scientists aren't needed but people who understand science, power and social dynamics. I'm for democracy mos but it has some prerequisites to work well.

I'm only 48 and no way can you class me as a fossil.
But my production of natural gas is plentiful.
