Think about it it the terms of customer service. If you have a disgruntled black person, you want a black person to deal with that person if possible. As a white person if you said, I'm not giving you your money back, get out! You would be accused of being racist.
BUT If you send in the black person and the same thing is said, then it works better

Forget direct confrontation.
Russia could just send loads of shoulder fired missiles and RPG's to Afghanistan and Iraq as a geopolitical strategy to defeat the US,should they fail to understand the new world order.

Yeah, exactly. If the US can just swan in and supply proxies with weapons to kill Russians, it stands to reason the Russians can start helping rebels in Afghanistan and Iraq make life VERY difficult for Western troops, in a way that they've had no reason to till now. Absolutely correct, just as we could send all sorts of shoulder and jeep fired missles and gernade launchers to Georgia and other areas to effectively destroy their tank and helicopter forces.
This would just lead to escalation and confrontation and, well, you get the picture. Sometimes I think it's time to move the bedroom into the basement.
The Cold War did not end in WWIII because both sides were only willing to go as far as personal combat equipment and limited armor in their proxy wars. It seems to me that GWB is bound and determined to bring about world peace even if he has to kill everyone to do it.

Its interesting to see how many people blame America for the Russian invasion of Georgia.
Fortunately Georgia, Poland and a handful of other countries arent as Fark stupid as some of the posters here and realize who the enemy in the matter is. Might be why they are risking confrontation themselves by requesting the missile defense technology isnt it?

I believe Georga made a stupid decision, and probably knowingly bombed civilians. I also believe the USA should mind our own business and not encroach or attempt to box Russia in.
Having said that it does appear that those countries who were occupied by Russia during the cold war do not want to repeat the experience. I sure cant Blame the countries of eastern europe for not wanting a powerful Russia.

I agree on most points, except for that pesky little part called "NATO". Georgia is an ally, as such America has every right to mind Georgias business. That doesnt mean I agree with the actions of either side mind you. Personally I think its ALL one big pissing match. Russia tries to flex its muscle, Georgia's allies respond. A big "Look at me look at me".
But the fact of the matter is Russia has zero claim to Georgia or South Ossenta as neither are Russian territories. However, Georgia does have some claim to South Ossenta, and as such America has the right to involve itself due to the alliance and partner standing between America and Georgia.
As such, it strikes me that Russia is the aggressor and thus the "bad guy" in this little scenario. Weird! I was just thinking of that movie the other day! About how, not all that long ago, it seemed hilarious that there was still a Soviet Union in 2010 (well, okay, there won't be, technically, but...), and how there were these unbelievable tensions between the US and Russia... seemed so out of place.
