In houses as big as those they residents couldn't find a place to hide their weapons?
Anyhow, that's a very telling video and shows that if this response is generated by a fairly small event, what will the response be in the case of a HUGE event! _________________ Got Dharma?

What are the chances of Gustav making a direct hit? I think pretty small. They have to get ready, but I'll bet it will make landfall someplace else.
It probably won't be a disaster in New Orleans again. It could hit Houston. Then the real problems start. Houston has the ship channel and is the center of oil infrastructure. _________________ Deep in the mud and slime of things, even there, something sings. |

That's a good question. I think they could only respond like this in a very limited area. say 5-10 NO sized cities and very limited rural activity.
The size they can handle is limited by two main factors and many other small ones:
1) lack of manpower. Imagine if nearly every city was in a disaster situation. You would not be able to take men from town01 to send to town 02 because they are needed at town01. just remember- 50 states, most bigger and meaner than the entire country of Iraq.
2)The whole "Shoot an American" idea. Gonna cause massive ethical issues among the troops. Even before someone's wife or friend gets shot and they decide to get their buddies and start shooting back. You could feel how uneasy the Natl guard was about their mission in that video. _________________ "The future power is manpower" |

Mike Ruppert is right..."let um' burn"...
I have a cop friend (also a very high up NCO in the Nat G.) -
At dinner a few weeks back when I asked what the plan was he said:
1) there really is no plan
2) to address #1 = "containment"
Just as Mike Ruppert said. IOW - you are on your own. _________________ 500 MPH into a brick wall - me |

Gun Confiscation In New Orleans
The first vid has a clip of cops slamming an old lady to the ground and delivering punches.
Katrina inspires bans on gun seizures
| Quote: | In the days after Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans police went door to door and confiscated guns from citizens in an effort to counter chaos and crime in the wrecked city.
But gun advocates saw the seizures as an infringement on constitutional rights and said never again.
The actions of the New Orleans police have inspired 13 states, including Louisiana, to enact laws to keep state and local officials from taking guns during a state of emergency, such as after a natural disaster or terrorist attack. President Bush also signed a bill in October that would penalize states financially for illegally confiscating guns during an emergency. |
We are like the early Christians, discretion is advised.

GOOD. Possibly the LAST thing I want is the .gov trying to "take care of" me and my family.
I was yelling at people on TV to leave by foot or on bike when those storms (Katrina and Rita) were approaching. I'm not suggesting I don't believe in charity, but people need to take care of themselves as well.
Take care of yourselves. Think for yourselves. I mean that in the best possible way. _________________ "Every junkie's like a setting sun..." - Neil Young |

What blows me away is they had to make a law to explicitly saying they can't take your guns during an emergency.
2nd Amendment
4th Amendment...
Have any of these lawmakers ever READ the Constitution/Bill of Rights??

No - and according to O'reilly those that are constitutionalist (i.e. lefties) are the criminals.
Won't be long before we hear things like:
The US Constitution is outdated...it needs to be amended...to reflect...ummm...where we are at...you know...climate change and PO...so ...whattya say...we are all in this boat together...right? _________________ 500 MPH into a brick wall - me |

When it comes to the 2nd amendment, lefties aren't constitutionalists. Lefties are the ones who want to ignore the 2nd amendment and limit gun rights. |

Well, I am right that most of the posts in this thread are a bunch of hysteria. It is starting to look like the storm might be a threat, but it's still too early to know where it might land. Evacuating NO two days ago would have looked a little silly, wouldn't it?
... I stand corrected on the subsidence issue, but subsidence is still not the reason parts of NO are below sea level, and the rest of my statement on that point is pretty much still accurate. ...
| Quote: | | Stilt houses have been built in the South, in the Florida Keys for instance. |
Adding elevation to new construction on the Coast has been pretty much part of every discussion that has been had since Katrina. I inherited a house that was built 14 feet off the ground. It still got 6 feet of water in it. If you ask me, they never sould have been allowed to build there in the first place, but that was 20 years ago.

You're talking about a few oil rig workers, I assume. They do the same thing on the rigs in the gulf. We're talking about a major city here.

Like it or not, you're part of this country, too, and you can't afford for one of the major commerce hubs to be taken out. Yeah, 90% of what they'll do after the next disaster will be as wasteful and stupid as it was after Katrina. Maybe one of these times they'll get it right, but I wouldn't hold my breath. _________________ Sarah Palin: Because what we really need right now is another inexperienced, inarticulate, personable, fundamentalist governor of an oil-dependent state for president. |
