Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Alistair Darling has said in a recent interview that "that voters were "pissed off" with Labour's handling of the economy and "Britain is in the grip of worst economic crisis for 60 years"
Well it looks like the denial stage is over now reality is setting in. The S has finally hit the F in the UK. This statement is unprecedented from a Chancellor. And coming from a Labour gvmnt, the economic crisis will be twice as bad as he is saying. So that would make it worse than the 1929 depression. The UK economy is TOAST. I think a hard-core, rapid-onset economic depression is exactly what the Dr. ordered for the UK...as their government has gotten way too far out of hand with their onerous taxation and police-state policies...not to mention the insanity of importing people from 3rd-world nations and stuffing them onto an island already packed with 60m people...what kind of craziness is that??
It's going to be very, very interesting to see how things play out in the UK once they reach full depression status...especially once their national government becomes totally insolvent..something I'll be cheering for, for sure...hehe.
Anyone care to speculate how quickly England might depopulate if they really do slip into a nasty depression? My guess is an exodus of 1m people a year, although that could climb to as high as 5m people a year if things get really bad over there. Sure will be a long time before England gets down to its sustainable population level of 3 million people or so.... _________________ Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide...

I think, it will not depopulate at all until dieoff came.
In fact UK population will increase fast mainly due to more teenage pregnancies (UK is already European leader here) and collapse of state sponsored family planning services.
Within a decade or so Britain will become a leader in population expansion with six kids per woman like Pakistan does.
Needless to say most of British women will actually be of Pakistani origin. If you visit any British NHS facility, you already feel like if you are in Pakistan.
And any remaining English girls will not lag behind in respect of fertility too. They will still expect Council houses after getting pregnant with a partner whom they cannot identify (too many of these...) and they will still expect additional GBP 20 or whatever it might be for every additional child.
After all for GBP 20 you can buy a nice cream or few pints or few shots of drug, you know. And with 5 kids you will get for free GBP 120 p.c.m. to spend (first kid is worth GBP 40).
The more kids I have, the bigger a Council house I can get - that is how large proportion if not majority of UK girls is trying to secure their future.

Er, um, Byron, you think the "police-state policies" caused or will improve if there is a depression? I would think there would be MANY more or these policies with a depression, to the point you would look back longingly. And realize these are not "police-state policies". I would agree with your immigration concerns. Mix a wide variety of cultures and a declining economic state and you have a disaster, it cant be otherwise as there is a competition for resources.

Nothing to do with global resource issues then!
You offer the fools far too much moral latitude here. The economy would be toast regardless of resource issues. Slowly diminishing oil supply is a factor, but not likely the main one. The UK has to unhitch their cart from the American horse and get on with it, as part of Europe. No more being used as a wedge to divide the continent, politically.

It would be funny if it weren't true. I agree with a lot of what you have said. There is a terrible hoodie problem in the UK, I have seen it firsthand. It is very common to hear people talk about how worried they are about violent or disrespectful and obstinate youth. Your argument would be strengthened scientifically, however, if you laid off of the immigrant rhetoric. It is easy to see only minorities when you look around in a sea of otherwise white faces. The same thing goes on in the US concerning Mexicans, there aren't nearly as many as people rhetorically expound that there are. Perhaps the perception comes from the ghettoization that minorities tend to engage in, congregating in large numbers to make their lives easier socially and financially. _________________ "Hope encourages men to take risks; men in a strong position may follow her without ruin, if not without loss. Yes I saw that earlier on the news, I thought it was down to a technical hitch at first, but then realised he repeated the same words over a dozen times..."we've got a credit a credit crunch along with high oil and food prices", yeah very astute mate, and notice how he deflects the blame away from our own banking 'elite' by saying this is a global problem. Our banksters would never take part in this colossall swindle...oh no Brown is also losing it, whenever he is questioned about the economic downturn he uses the same phrases over and over again.."we have strong fundamentals... low unemployment... I am getting on with the job" The pair of them look like they are going to crack at any moment. _________________ Machines are what distinguish modern man from the savage.

and bear in mind that the UK always, even more than the US, plays down bad news (or plays up) such as politicians feeding their own kids burgers on prime time news during the BSE crisis...so Darling, god bless him, saying this and swearing as well suggests that we're so far up crap creek that we've fogotten there was ever a paddle.

As a vetran observer of the whole new labour movement, there is nothing in his repitition to be worried about. He has a key target message "we know there is a problem but we are helping you". Its the same old drum beat style Ive heard from endless interveiws and messages. If you want repitition try watching one of Browns old budget days speaches. The phrase "stability locked in" drove me nuts for 10 years.
Its almost certainly an effort to spike the obvious angle that Osborne and the tories would take that the government is out of touch. The government is saying what everyone is thinking and so trying to build credibility on that. Even Blair used that tactic a few times.

He sees the DTI figures on UK oil and gas every other month. He knows that our trade deficit is about to become gargantuan and the pound is headed for a fall, that tax revenues from the financial sector are drying up and that the cost of running government will go up rapidly.
I think its more gloom that out and out doom for the UK for the next 5 years or so.

Wouldn't the London Olympics coming in 2012 create a lot of construction jobs and spin-offs for some years to come? And, just think of the aftermath, it will bring the country into the spotlight of the world and encourage tourism and give Britain a chance to showcase its industry and the arts to the world.
Its not a time to feel downcast, mate!
I recall some British comedy group a while back, I think it was called Monty Python, that had a tune of sorts, "Always look on the bright side of life" it went. Maybe this Chancellor should check them out.
