FYI
I received an email from Mountain House saying they are again selling the #10 cans on their website.
Only 4 of the main entrees on their site are shown as out of stock.
Happy Shopping

http://www.mountainhouse.com/faqs.cfm
i looked at the FAQ, but ... nothing about how to cook with these things.
what is a typical recipe like with one of these freeze dried foods ?
( i have a hunch that it involves adding water. )
what does it taste like, compared to regular "Lasagna/Meat Sauce" or "Chicken Teriyaki" ? _________________ http://www.LASIK-Flap.com/ ~ Health Warning about LASIK Eye Surgery |

Depends on how hungry you are.
I purchased a number of these cans earlier this year. Heard the food is good (freeze-dried), but am waiting until I really need them to break them out.
That time might not be too distant in the future. The shelf life is 30 years. |

Pretty easy.
Just add hot water. _________________ "Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the

The food is surprisingly good. Just add hot water or some just add cold water.
I would suggest buying some of the packets that are made for 1 person. Then you can decide if you like it or not.
I use MH on my backpacking trips and it tastes great after a long day of hiking or fishing.

Chili-Mac is excellent.
Sort of like Hamburger Helper.
They should call it "Doomer Helper." _________________

For those that have not tried it yet, the Chicken stew is the best. I use 1/2 less water to make a tasty pot pie. _________________ Hair in my eyes like a highland steer, spring in my step like a white tailed deer. Freeze dried food is expensive, and requires water, so you have to plan for that. (I still need to improve my water situation)
I like the idea of a 30 year shelf life. My Chili Mac can says it has 10 (1 cup) servings. That's a pretty small serving size, IMO. I plan on putting in another order very soon to augment my other stash of canned goods and my 72 hour kit. (If inventory is still available after today's 500 point DOW plunge...) |

A question... what's so good about storing expensive freeze dried food products, when you can just as easily find food on the shelf at the local store, or grow and store your own, that's less expensive and lasts 3 - 4, even 10 years in storage? It's also much easier to rotate through your regular diet.
While a years supply of food, in my opinion is a very good idea, something that lasts for 30 years seems a little over the top. Especially since most people will only keep a years worth on hand at the most anyway. Rather, shouldn't you strive to obtain a sustainable existence, where you can grow and store your own, if it comes to that in your lifetime?
Freeze dried, like MH products, I believe has a purpose in a bug-out bag, where you need the room and low weight. Not something you would want in #10 cans though to lug around. _________________ The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

Ask the people in Galveston how that works and the people who survived New Orleans a few years ago.
How about a major earthquake in LA or San Francisco leaving highways and railroads destroyed for months?
It only takes 1 day for the supermarket to sell ALL its food in the event of an emergency.

I had some of their food during hiking / camping trips and it is actually really good.
But do I see this right that they don't ship outside the US?
I've tried looking in some MRE / #10s for a while now, being near a fault zone and all that, but it seems the options are severely limited in Canada |
