Oil's energy contribution has declined by about 12% since 1999. The world's economies have also declined by about 12%. (Using conventional metrics, which are time delayed determinations, this will only be seen in hind sight). The massive destruction of asset values now occurring testifies to it happening. Peak is well behind us, world economies have peaked and will continue to decline.

Heard a similar rumor on a wamu bank in Idaho. There's actually been a slow-moving run on wamu for the last several weeks. A friend closed his account last Monday and bought gold--he's very happy today!

WaMU is probably the next big bank to fail or bailed out. Looking at that being next weeks crisis.

Fitch Places Washington Mutual on Rating Watch Evolving
Quote:
NEW YORK, Sep 18, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Fitch Ratings has placed the ratings of Washington Mutual, Inc. (WaMu) ('BBB-/F3'), Washington Mutual Bank ('BBB/F3') and related entities on Rating Watch Evolving. This action reflects recent market developments, specifically, the waiver by WaMu's largest investors (TPG Capital and related entities) of the price reset rights under their investment agreement and warrants associated with their June 2008 capital investments.
Because the waiver removes an important potential hurdle to the sale of WaMu, Fitch believes it signals a much higher probability of an imminent significant transaction which, depending upon the buyer and the specifics of the transaction, could result in the upgrade or downgrade of WM and related subsidiaries. …

I call false rumor- I see no substantiation. But I could totally see it- my whole family banks thera dnI've been telling them for months to get out. They don't have over 100,000$ so they are "insured", but who knows what could happen if there was a run...

Laughing Laughing Laughing !

Here's what I posted yesterday on the other WAMU thread:

Quote:
I called my mother today, who is retired and has a large savings and her checking account at WAMU, and told her to pull everything out and change banks, TODAY!

WAMU may live another week or two, but it will not survive. How can it? Who wants to end up holding the empty bag? Where's the money going to come from? Or, as a customer, who wants to wait in endless lines or for endless months to see IF you can get YOUR money back, especially when so many banks will fail in the weeks to follow?

Listen, if you want to commit suicide - financial or otherwise - just go ahead and trust whatever this government and its cronies tell you to do.

We know the outcome, just not the exact timing. Like most other PO-related topics.

She did it right away and put it into U.S. Bank (I've since told her to spread it around more).

I also happen to live in Lake Oswego.

I guess it's all MY fault!

Smile

I just drove by the LO branch at about 3:30. No lines, nothing unusual, but that's not to say that there were no lines earlier.

When my mother went to U.S. Bank, they did ask her if she was moving the funds because of the "rumors" about WAMU. She lied, and told them "no". Smile
