Well I got the highs of 150.00 pretty close, but I was off about 20.00 on the lows. Darn.  But there's over 2 months left, so I may be closer.
Oh, so this latest list is from July8, to December 31, 2008. What was the price on July 8? |

Sparky rises to second, unless I have typo'd his second half estimates.
The PO.com prognosticators are geneerally way off with this, because a lot of the bears did not come out of the woodwork when we started the second half contest. |

Yeah, we doomers were more than happy to assume that the last six months of the year would be just like the fourth and fifth.
Also, the bears in the original contest were so driven for cover that they did not emerge for the July edition, thus making our average much worse.
Ironically we had better luck in the original contest, without the emotional effects of the May and June price action.
Perhaps if we have a 2009 contest, we will all take this into consideration.
p.s. Sparky's entry above was a typo, his closing entry should have been 160. I will correct it for the next posting. |

I guess that was part of it, pup55, but mostly I made my guess in the other thread and just wanted to stick to it. This thread seems to cover all the highs, while the first one seems to have covered all the lows.
For instance, I didn't see the $147 coming in the spring, but I sure as heck saw the $69 coming in the fall of an election year.
Any chance of combining them and seeing where stuff shakes out? |

Turns out to have been a good strategy, as you and Pops have found out.
I might combine the two tables at some point. but the top 22 January forecasts are better than Pops' July forecast, so the outcome is going to be that the bears in the original contest are going to win.
Edit: I take it back. This is not at all certain. If the hyperinflation kicks off, we could easily see this stuff sky back upward, which would be really interesting from an economic history standpoint. |
