Oil's energy contribution has declined by about 12% since 1999. The world's economies have also declined by about 12%. (Using conventional metrics, which are time delayed determinations, this will only be seen in hind sight). The massive destruction of asset values now occurring testifies to it happening. Peak is well behind us, world economies have peaked and will continue to decline.

Yep. Just like 3 months ago when Bernanke said the subprime mess was "contained", probably in 3 months the phrase "great depression" will be a common one in the media... unless the bailout is able to stave off the inevitable for a short time. I personally doubt it...

There should be a talking head soundbyte meter... when a phrase is mentioned on Fox, CNBC, MSNBC, etc. more than so many times..an alarm goes off and we know we are being lied to?

Examples include but are not limited to:
War on Terror
Al Queda
Osama Bin Laden
Terrorist
Bailout
Financial Crisis
Subprime Meltdown

To name a few...
Cheers!

Sarah Palin said that, eh?

Well, I value her opinion as much as I do that of PeeWee Herman.

Isn't it funny? A Republican talks about an impending disaster and you laugh about it, make jokes about it.

Let Dingy Harry, Pigosi, the Black Messiah, or any other liberal, socialist ding-a-ling talk about an impending disaster and the world is coming to an end.

Dimwits.

The media is starting to overdramatize it because they think that they might not get their money. If enough people call them and tell them not to pass it they'll all start to freak out. They are listening to the polls and your calls and they know that America is watching their every move. Everybody that I work with is talking about it and if they're not, then I am informing them about it and sending them emails with congressmen's contacts.

Why would anybody in their right mind give those crooked banks even one penny?

I'd be issuing indictments.

It's going to happen whether they do this bail out or not. Now they can blame someone else: "oh, if only you had let us do the bailout, we wouldn't be in this mess".

Of course, when we do bail the banks out and it happens anyway, there'll be someone else to blame. Rolling Eyes

Here's what seems to have happened in the earlier bailouts.

1. Government pretty much wipes out existing shareholders, so the shareholders are now losers.
2. The Government takes on a $hitload of debt, so now the taxpayers are losers.
3. Most of the current management gets to stay in place, so the people who were in charge of this screwup get to keep on keeping on.

Somehow for some reason I'm against this bailout. The winners are losing and the losers are winning.

Agree 110%!!!

Given that I beleive PO will set off a second Great Depression anyhow we might just as well let the system crash now instead of propoing it up for another 6 or 12 months and making the crash that much worse.

and if Congress does act on the financial crisis, the fat-cats cash in and we head for another great depression. Razz

There are no good options. We were screwed the moment the housing bubble hit its zenith. Pick your poison.
