The elections won't be cancelled, but Uba Ack Mama Racka will be debating himself because McCain has to do his job. _________________ People first, then things, then dollars.

Apparently you're sending this message from the future?

Rocc,
Your poll assumes the presidency has any power over policy. Considering how bad things are getting why would the Fed have any interest in canceling a meaningless election/appointment and unnecessarily disturb the faith(reality-negating mythology) of the general populace even further?
If today's voting technology existed 45 years ago JFK wouldn't have had to be assassinated because he wouldn't have been allowed to win the election. |

McPalin knows the ship is going down; look at the recent poll data. I think Obama has been successful showing that McCan't is a 'publican through and through - a champion of deregulation. It's not a real popular stance right now.
So, he's backing away... creating a space; a potential to walk away from the election so that *potentially* the case could be made later that there shouldn't be an election at all. Something along the lines of "there shouldn't be an election right now due to the (economic collapse, alien invasion, zombie caravan, etc.). Besides, look, I wasn't even trying."
So that might cheapen it for Obama if things go as planned with McNobody backpedelling away as November approaches. I'm not saying it's likely, just possible, Rocc. _________________ What fortune has made yours is not your own. -Seneca |

I hope alien invasion is part of the debate. The more comically surreal things are the more entertaining. _________________ Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi

Whoo-hooo! Take a look at this! McCain Suspends Campaign!!!!
This just looks SOOOoooo suspicious: McCain losing in the polls, campaign manager getting smelly, really lame excuse. Like ObamaRama says, a president has to deal with more than just one issue at a time.
I don't think they'll bother canceling the elections, at this point I can't see how it makes any difference, all the same guys will remain in charge no matter which candidate gets in. In any case, the one who spends the most, wins. And that's clearly Obama. If they wanted to join hands in a show of patriotism, as McCain's guys are presenting thes move, why the hell don't they donate all their campaign millions to the bail-out ..... |

This crap comes up every election. The radical right said it about King Billary and now it is out about Bush. Lincoln held an election in the middle of the the Civil War. Roosevelt ran for election during WW II.
The day elections are suspended is the day the government breaks the social contract. At that point the game is up and the next America will have begun. |

I contend that happened last week, though it seems most people don't realize the gravity of it.
Well, it probably happened a long time ago, but last week made it crystal clear. They are barely bothering to even pretend to represent us. _________________ "Every junkie's like a setting sun..." - Neil Young |

Yes, Shanny, 300 to 1 calls against, and the legislation is apparently going to pass pretty much as Paulson requested. We're all doomed. _________________ Civilization: the biosphere's skin disease |

| I don't get how anyone could think that Bush wants to stay in office. He isn't landing on carriers anymore and nobody cheers when he says 'dead or alive' anymore. It's no fun and he hates the job. They had to practically drag him back to washington to make that speech last night - he has already returned his room key and checked out. |
