Probably not, but he still has lots of power to do things. So it's a little scary to me. |

It was short and sweet.
He simply said a deal would go through. |

Turned out to be nothing. 2 minutes of same ol' same ol'...
What was the point in that??? That's the weirdest thing I've seen. As if his saying "we're going to pass it" made it so... |

He's stating the obvious. The debacle in Washington last night hit the news with so much frenzy that they now HAVE to do something.
They went from the image of working together cooperatively to come up with a solution to childish bickering overnight - on a subject that directly impacts 100% of the voters.
I suspect there is a lot more at stake than we know. The next phase of the collapse may start knocking out pension funds and 401k's. That was hinted at last week when some money market funds started dropping below $1 value per $1 principal invested. _________________ Welcome to the Kondratieff Winter |

I have been digesting what he said, and a blueberry muffin, the muffin had more substance to it.
It looked like he was winging it, there looked like there was a speech prepared for him but he didn't want to use it.
He has basically said screw you......if the bail out is not agreed on by congress, he will pass one anyway. Doesn't the patriot act give him the authority to do this. Would this count as one of those disaters that could affect the stability of America.
I think that there needs to be something done today, if this thing goes on into next week, the problem will be bigger and messier. |

Actually the suprising thing is how little people care what he says. The Presidents party is causing him no end of embarassment at the moment. _________________ Congress has found themselves in a bear trap. They will chew off three legs, and still be caught in it... |

Question: "when should the American people panic?:
Answer: "when the president says we might be in a recession."
The president's job is to act as a figurehead and a cheerleader for America.
So long as everyone knows this fact, it's not a problem.
If Bush goes up in front of a microphone and says we're all buggered then it's game over. All confidence is removed and everyone panics. But if the president says everything is rosy people can at least say, "well if the problem was really bad, he'd at least acknowledge it".
It's all a game of expectations. If you see the president saying we're in a recession or that the banking system is on the verge of collapse, move into your bunker. _________________ "www.peakoil.com is the Myspace of the Apocalypse." |

I don't think the president has a party at the moment. McCain would be doing better is Bush would stfu. He'd also be doing a lot better if people couldn't keep bringing up "na na na na na you voted with bush!"
But they won't Somewhere off in deep space, is Bush. Somewhere between that and a real republican is McCain...who probably really wanted to be a republican, but the neocons bent his will over the last 8 years, and then convinced him to pick palin. Palin thinks God has called her. Not much more to say about that.
The real republicans were probably the ones saying "uh uh" to the bailout. Cheyney probably has their souls in a little jar around his neck now. Too bad - I have to say I respect them for trying.
