I'll bet Rome had something similar to recruit new barbarian fodder back in the day. _________________

So Rocc, as fellow vet I take it you don't think Kid Rock would stand up too well to Basic Training? _________________ Skeptical scrutiny in both Science and Religion is the means by which deep thoughts are winnowed from deep nonsense-Carl Sagan |

That is awful!
I think Kid Rock is trying hard to become the Toby Keith of rock music. He did a campaign concert for John McCain at Sturgis back in August. _________________ "We were standing on the edges

I don't get it with guys my age...40-45 crowd (even older)...
Never served, but patriotic as all get out.
I think that is called "over compensation".
Reasons:
1) wanted to, but school, kids, wife
2) wanted to, but flat feet
3) wanted to, but bad back
4) wanted to, but...
I'd like to know who on this board served...and here is how it would go...
You either say you served...or you say nothing and it then is assumed you did not.
Really - what is happening to this country slays me...I did my time...may have been blinded...may have been stupid...but I did my time.
There are but a handful of civic duties:
1) give blood
2) vote
3) serve
4) volunteer
Not real hard, but the ass wipes on this board, in my neighborhood, and in my congress I know have not even given blood.
Oh, but they would be the first to grab a flag after 911.
Hey pops...you serve bro? _________________ 500 MPH into a brick wall - me |

Umm yeah. I got bad veins. The blood donation people got tired of poking me and told me not to come back.
I'm definitely not interested in killing or getting killed in service to Halliburton.
I do some volunteer work though.
I'm not waving any flags either. Flag wavers scare me. Especially after 911. I never spent 30 seconds worrying about terrorists, but the psycho Americans kept me awake many nights. _________________ "We were standing on the edges

So this Kid person is some kind of reactionary, I take it? That looks like something you'd cook up as a joke to aggravate Kunstler. _________________ Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi

I had to cover my ears to keep it from bleeding.
I remember waaay back when I first turned 18 years old in high school.
I got a lot of junk mail from the military with really pretty pictures of people doing exciting things with their lives.
I am glad I did NOT join. _________________ joeltrout Oct-2008: Dow 13,000 in three years
