Oil's energy contribution has declined by about 12% since 1999. The world's economies have also declined by about 12%. (Using conventional metrics, which are time delayed determinations, this will only be seen in hind sight). The massive destruction of asset values now occurring testifies to it happening. Peak is well behind us, world economies have peaked and will continue to decline.

I wish that were the case. But McCain, if he's elected, has a fair chance of not making it through his first term - if the presidency were a policy, any insurance company would have some hard questions for him. And if that happens, then we're left with... well, her. In charge. No, in this case the VP could matter very much.

I have finally realized by liberals are such advocates of aborting as many babies as they possibly can, even those babies who have been born. It is because the powers that be in the liberal universal realize they are such asinine, stupid, idiotic, bunches of bastards. Such things as accusing saving children ruins America, promoting life causes one to kick in the head of a mother, protecting Jews makes one a Nazi are all examples of the absolute craziness that infects the liberals. These leaders are smart enough to know that by aborting as many liberals as can be done it may possibly reduce the complete craziness which has so embittered liberals. Thank you all for your comments which have led me to a great revelation as to why I believe you all should be aborted ASAP. It is too bad your mothers did not have the same feelings as you do.

GO MCCAIN, PALIN, BUSH, and all the right people of the world!!!!!!!

Liberals suck toad crap. (and probably like it)

Depending upon the criteria used, apparently the actuarial tables say he has either a one-in-four or one-in-five chance of not surviving the next eight years.

We deserve to have Sarah in the Oval Office. We Americans need more punishment, embarrassment, and excruciating humiliation. We don't get it yet. Perhaps a few years of having her as Chief Executive might switch on a few light bulbs over the heads of a fair percentage of the population.

Sums it all up for me.

Did Biden kill a baby? That is shocking! No question I will not be voting for them! Baby killers...

He is a Democrat and a liberal. Haven't you heard of ABORTION?

Oh my gosh you scared me. I though you meant that Joe had killed a baby. That certainly would have been a game changer.

Given Biden's record he signed up to every raid campaign and empire/military-industrial complex expansion possible = so he is by participation personally responsible for mountains of dead babies in Serbia, Afghanistan, Iraq, you name it..

First, you have THE best avatar around (dynamic duo goes bust). Well picked.

Now, as an European, I can't really understand the point of all the abortion debate around there. I've read in The Economist that Nixon has something to do with reviving the stuff, and since I move to England, I've realised the Tories speak too much about "family values" for my taste. It's odd, really. Seems to blind people to more important matters.

Sarah Palin seemed like an irresponsible choice from the start, picked up to make people like our very own Proud Fossil happy. She is there to hide the fat that McCain, dangerous as he is, is essentially a liberal within the Republicans, and couldn't care less about abortion.

Biden is just a Washington insider, just like Obama.

The debate will be interesting, because Palin might go on the attack and try to pull it to her domain (abortion), and Biden won't be able to fight back hard or those said puppy eyes on her will tell everyone how bad a man he is. I wish someone eventually posts it on YouTube!

You missed the Golden Age of Zardoz avatars. Every day we'd be treated to some hilarious new political pic. Many sourced from The Really Truly Hillary Gallery.

Still got those socked away in your giant stone head, Zar? Would make a killer photo gallery thread.

...Uh huh.

Unwed pregnant woman: But I have to get an abortion... I can't afford to have a baby now. I don't have the skills yet to support myself, much less someone else.

Compassionate conservative: Surely you should never have had sex.

Unwed pregnant woman: Maybe, but how does that help me now? This is a problem and I have to deal with it. It doesn't make me happy; it's tearing me apart... but I know there's nothing but misery ahead for us both if I don't.

Compassionate conservative: It is wrong. It is murder. Every human life is sacred. Your innocent child must be born!

Unwed pregnant woman: But I can't look after it...

Compassionate conservative: Do you really think that our compassionate, Christian society is going to let you and your innocent child go without? Haven't we demonstrated we're better than that? You owe your child life and a chance! We will not let you down if you do what's right.

Unwed pregnant woman: Well... okay... [has baby]

Baby: [draws first breath and cries]

Compassionate conservative: WHEN IS THAT F***ING SPONGER GETTING A JOB??!!?!??!! [throws woman and baby out; slams door]

EPILOGUE

Child grows up to life of crime and is executed by compassionate conservatives for whom "all human life is sacred". God laughs and weeps alternately. Words "RETROACTIVE ABORTION" echo through the universe as God finally elects to drown mankind in vomit. THE END.

And stolen from the rest of us by people who actually mean "the United States" thereof. Even France isn't arrogant enough to call itself alone "Europe".

I hope they ask how smoothly your spouse has to drive
the snowmobile while you hold your breath so when you
squeeze off a round you don't miss the moose.

This will throw Biden for a total loss, I can see him now
jabbering about Bullwinkle rearing his head in Delaware.

I am certain the last half hour will be devoted to resource
limits halting the economies of the world that are based
on constant growth and how each candidate proposes
how to artfully use credit and subsidized consumption to
push these resource limits far beyond the event horizon
of all of the people on earth, at least until Nov. 5, 2008.

I will also wait for the classic moderator line:

"Senator Biden, would you please stop beating this
subject to death and the afterlife long enough so
that Governor Palin can say something so horrible
it is not even wrong?"

The reason we have Palin on the ticket right now is because the GOP wasn't about to let McCain have a pro-choice VP (or someone who was formerly pro-choice but had since "changed his mind"). That one factor had more weight than other considerations, like foreign policy experience, etc.

What really gets me angry is that Republicans want to eliminate abortions but at the same time, Bush is pushing laws to let doctors and pharmacists deny birth control to women! So no abortions but no birth control either. OK, so I'll just tell my husband "Sorry, no sex". Most forms of birth control are expensive (even condoms), esp for those without insurance. Last time I checked (a long time ago!) the Pill was about $45 per month without insurance and $28 with insurance. I'm sure it's a lot more now.

If we really want to reduce the number of abortions, let's get serious and promote free/ low cost birth control and adoption.
Also, if you want every child to be born, then you better get serious about funding for women's and children's services. (such as child abuse prevention, etc) We have an epidemic of child abuse and neglect in the US (which is only getting worse as the economy tanks).

The latest statistics on abortions show that over half are obtained by women who already have one child. Also, rates are higher for black and hispanic women. Let the GOP investigate why this is and target those populations with "Be a man, wear a condom" type of campaign. Or let's promote FREE permanant forms of bc (vasectomy or tubal ligation) for folks who don't want any more kids. Oh, wait, you're a man and you won't get a vasecctomy? Then you're part of the problem. I'm lucky because my insurance covers vas. for a small fee and my husband has agreed to get one.

Personally, I prefer to base my vote on more than one or two issues. Abortion and taxes are not the only things we need to consider right now!

WTF is up with FossilDope? Are you kidding me? He's kidding right?
It's me, I am not getting his sarcasm.... He's being sarcastic right?
Why are you on this site you freakin moron! All of your twisted ideas are exactly what's wrong and you can't even see it....
6.7 billion people on the rock and we are crashing into a freakin cement wall of resource depletion and food scarcity and you think abortion should be illegal? Come on... let's think about it.... you Republicans don't want welfare and you do want every under-educated young woman to have to have the unwanted baby which forces her into the program that you want to abolish....
WOW.
