I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

Mental Health Parity? Hmm... I've heard there are some very strong arguments that this actually reduces the number of people covered. Figures. $700B to the banks, less for the rest of us.

Yes, I've e-mailed all the senators and reps. I have time for. Monday night, Tuesday thier emails were so clogged that I just got the message to try again later.

Lately the news, CNBC, senators et al are trying to push this bill by saying it will make it harder if not impossible for small businesses, average americans to get loans to buy cars, supplies, etc. and that it is already starting to happen. Now I know that most of you are either out of debt or are probably not applying for loans, but if you are I was wondering how many are being denied. I don't believe this scare tactic anymore than I believe either candidate's wild campaign promises but maybe I'm mistaken. Any borrowers out there having any problems?

(I looked around for the most likely forum to place this on and this seemed as likely a place as any.)

I just e-mailed this to my senator with jbrovont being replaced with my real name. Smile I'll let you guys know what kind of response I get.

Quote:

Dear Honorable Senator,

This is a joke, right?

Is there a way I can get a special tax exemption put in there for being named "jbrovont?" If so, that would be great.

YES, if the bill passes the US taxpayer will be bailing out foreign banks.

NO, we won't be buying equity in their firms. We'll be buying out worthless derivatives and complicated financial contracts that are tied to the mortgages.

NO, we won't pay what they are worth. We'll pay billions and billions MORE then these toxic contracts are worth. The amount to be paid will be at the discretion of the secretary of the Treasury.

YES, its all a very bad idea. If we are going to bail out banks, lets at least get an equity position in the firms. Its idiotic to just give away money and takeover worthless contracts from the same fools who bankrupted their firms originally.

KILL THE BAILOUT BILL.

I dont know Bas, sure looks to me like that rep is quite a bit agitated about exactly that and the fact that he has been thrown out of discussions is absurd also, but there it is right in front of you.

I know that a lot of times these guys don't know the exact language and get talking points etc from advisers, but on this one I'd think its important to have the actual language in front of you.

Something very big is up. I'm thinking this is more about attempting to stop dollar dumping around the globe than any kind of rescue at home right now. Very ominous if that is really the case.

Almost all the MSM is endorsing the bill and it is really clear that there really is something else going on when they tell us that we will no longer be able to get loans for cars etc.

What the heck. The entire problem is caused by debt and excessive consumption. Yet the Senate/MSM has the audacity to tell us that if the bill isn't passed we (collectively) won't be able to get further into debt. Oh shucks, how terrible!

Unfortunately, that is exactly what we need; to get out of debt and quit living beyond our means. However, to get there we will need to go through some serious changes and rough time.

What they need is a dose of reality in their daily lives or maybe they just need to quit sugar coating everything and tell the straight truth about things. I'm not holding my breath.

How do you make a bailout into a rescue?

You stick earmarks all over it.

I don't think they are telling us everything.

I don't think he is talking about AIG. I wonder which one he is ?

Perhaps there is something to that but then again maybe he is just trying to sell it via fear like most others.

So the tax extender bill was 190 pages long...?

Bills get mashed together like this from time to time, it's just the focus this is obviously receiving that's extraordinary. Get a load of this summary:

Quote:
New Tax earmarks in Bailout bill

- Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
- Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
- 6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez
incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)

Tax earmark "extenders" in the bailout bill

- Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
- American Samoa (Sec. 309)
- Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
- Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
- Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
- Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
- Railroads (Sec. 316)
- Auto Racing Tracks (317)
- District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
- Wool Research (Sec. 325)

Rum and arrows? Party on, Dudes! Laughing

There's stuff in there about smart meters on appliances as well. This pork ain't kosher; I told both Wyden and Smith to put the kibosh on it, even if it hurts Port Orford Cedar Shafts's business a bit. This bill is just evil and wrong.

Yeah. The tax extender is about 190 pages, but it doesn't even start till page 261. There's another bill that runs from page 113 to 261 titled Energy Improvement and Extension Act.

Sweetners.

What did you expect?

Just imagine what the bill will look like if it takes three tries?

Time for a paradigm shift folks. Personal preparation for a future of predictable and unpredictable change.

If following the debate on C-span keeps you from chopping one face cord of wood, canning one quart of tomatoes, building one relationship in your community or learning a new skill you will need in the future, tune it out. Get yourself into a place where you honestly respond "what bill?"

The legislative battle was lost decades ago. It is long past time to fall back to local preparation, however that seems appropriate in your location.

The vandals may be looting Rome, time to fortify Constantinople rather than sending valuable resources into a lost battle.

Today I hung a door on the barn, worked with the goats to tame them in preparation for milking and invested in some insulated curtains. I hope to work some double shifts in the next couple of days, if they are not available I will prepare the barn for winter, finish harvesting tomato and bean seeds.

Bill, what bill?
