Oil's energy contribution has declined by about 12% since 1999. The world's economies have also declined by about 12%. (Using conventional metrics, which are time delayed determinations, this will only be seen in hind sight). The massive destruction of asset values now occurring testifies to it happening. Peak is well behind us, world economies have peaked and will continue to decline.

No. They're nearly always about people who DO something; applying a principle without considering the consequences.

Nice qualifier. However, all four would consider the consequences and benefits; that is the nature of professional decisiveness.

And to flat prove *my* statement; I'm gonna invoke the holocaust and hopefully certain people won't go anti-zionist on me or something.

How many in Germany died who did not act.
How many in Germany died as a result of attempting to flee.
How many in Germany lived as a result of attempting to flee.

Sure you will. Millions of them. Time and again, purge after purge after genocide, after purge; They sat on their porches and in their homes until those with power came for them, and killed them.

Huh? Palin is worlds better than the other three. She alone has the cajones to take on the Ruskies and push that button- we will be saved and go to heaven. Will you???

I spent an awfully large portion of my life listening to their side of the story. I'm pretty well versed in all of their arguments.

And yet unmoved, just as they are unmoved by your sides arguments. Both unwilling or unable to grant that their opponents might hold honest, ethically sound opinions on the issue; unmotivated by spurious alternative motivations.

FWIW...
The only people I know who have done clinic protests couldn't give a rats rear end about birth control and were more than a tad annoyed at various government initiatives that made it more difficult for women to acquire services and support in these types of pregnancies.

Decisiveness does not imply that the answer reached is to push the button.

Deciding is just that, yes OR no. Indecision involves hesitating over the button until the decision is taken out of your hands by circumstance; whether the circumstance then causes the launch or not ends up being the result of outside chance, and not a deliberative decision.

Whether using a nuke is the right or wrong answer is a completely different discussion dependent upon the situation. I'm not convinced that any of the three legislators up for election could MAKE a decision.

Does Sarah Palin really believe that this planet is just 6000 years old? Is she one of those ultra-literal-interpretation of every word of the bible types, who add up the years quoted and come up with 6000?

We don't know if she knows how old the planet is, or if she holds a religious point of view that is contrary to that age.

We do know it likely that many US presidents have held such views. We do know that them believing such a thing in no way harmed the continuation of the Republic.

I'm of the billions persuasion, but I'm not quite sure how that qualifies me to be an executive of any large organization.

Palin favorite news source?

That article is hilarious. I really don't think she reads a newspaper or watches any national tv news.

I don't blame McCain for this choice, she was first offered the position by Big Oil last Spring.

Video on CNN. Train Wreck!!!!

This is a follow-up on my previous post.

{ My brother who is a professor of composition in Melbourne, Florida made some good points:}

In a message dated 10/1/2008 11:22:47 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time, Therealkronos5 writes:

Interestingly she's allegedly a journalism major who in the Couric interview couldn't (or chose not to?) name a single newspaper by name that she claims to read:

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/09/30/omg-palin-cant-name-one-magazinenewspaper-she-reads/

COURIC: And when it comes to establishing, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and understand the world?

PALIN: I’ve read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.
COURIC: Like what ones specifically?
PALIN: Umm… all of them. Any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.
COURIC: Can you name any of them?
PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news… Alaska isn’t a foreign country where it’s kind of suggested it seems like, wow how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, DC may be thinking and doing, when you live up there in Alaska. Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

{This was my reply to him and others.}

That is like Homer Simpson, who when his nuclear plant was bought out for the Germans and was asked what projects he spearheaded, said "all of them."

Lack of a knowledge of specifics is a clear indicator of ignorance. This lady does not know, does not pay attention, does not remember, does not understand, and does not realize the importance of things. She just hems and haws and talks her way around things to cover her mental insufficiences much like a senior with alzheimer's would.

G

PS
I often read the San Francisco Chronicle, the Sacramento Bee, and the Wall Street Journal. I occasionally read Newsweek, Time, National Geographic, and Scientific American. Online I look at msnbc.com, cnn.com, msn.com, http://www.peakoil.com., http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net, and http://www.kunstler.com.

Could you even name 1 newspaper or magazine you read, Palin? Oh, that is too much to ask. That is putting that poor little lady on the spot, throwing a sucker punch, enacting gotcha journalism, and demanding too much of a future vice president of the US to ask what any fourth grader should be able to answer effectively.

PPS
The question is whether she is too much of a moron for the imbecilic short-sighted knuckle-dragging suv-driving flat-tv-screen-watching barbequed-beef-eating superbowl-worshipping beer-swilling born-yesterday ignormaus red-neck white trash of this nation to support. I think they have a fine representative of themselves in her.

So, would people care to comment on the intelligence and education level of S. Palin? Did folks notice her answer to Katie Couric's question as to the meaning of the proposed financial bailout. Sarah P. said it was about providing medical care and lower taxes and some other irrelenvancies. A suitable answer would have been that the plan was to protect the integrity of the banking system and make it so credit continued to be available to people for getting houses, cars, student loans etc. (The plan is also being pushed through to shore up big banks so they can continue to purchase large quantities of treasury bills and thereby support the federal government.)

Does anyone else here think she is a simpleton who isn't even qualified to be a primary school teacher or book-keeper? Does anyone else resent that this semi-moron could seriously be considered for the role of vice president of the United States when she clearly is not college material, realitistically would merit a D academic record, and would not pass behavioral or technical interviews for most jobs in California.

This is not satisfactory.

Boobus Americanus, in its anti-intellectual belligerent slovenly way, is pushing though another obviously unqualified nitwit for highest office. There is more to leadership than just throwing your weight around though in this nation of slobs there are a lot of over-bearing fatsos who are pretty good at that much.

McCain isn't that swift either. He admitted that he does not understand economics and was involved as a member of the Keating Five in the S&L scandal in the late 80's. One of Obama's professors at Harvard said he was one of the smartest students he ever had. He is discriminating, discerning, deliberative, and aware.

Do folks still think that war in Iraq was a good idea? Besides the costs in money, and lives and injuries and health, that little escapade wrecked much of 10,000-years worth of archaeology and history for nothing more than fleeting arms contractor profits and Bush's petty vindictiveness. Do you think international leadership is a matter of going around making enemies needlessly, squandering resources, provoking pointless adversariality, tossing aside centuries-worth of legal documentation that guided the conduct of government, and making a few simplistic asinine remarks like "we will smoke them out?"

And as far as the abortion issue goes, that should not be a national debate. It is a private issue. These sorts of social issues, gay rights, abortion, flag burning etc, are just added to party platforms as a cynical ploy to get enough votes so that their members can get elected. There are not enough multi-millionaires and arms contractors to guarantee Republican victories so they have to cater to the Christian right etc to get votes. Oh, how you tools and fools are so easily used time and time again. Morons!

We should not only save every baby, we should save every sperm. Every sperm could potentially become a human being, so every time a sperm dies it is murder.

I am with you on the abortion part, but the sperm thing is ludicrous. No where in God's laws does He condemn sexual pleasure with your wife and birth control. God does not condemn condoms or pulling your schlinky out to prevent pregnancy.

Chose not to would be the obvious answer; though I understand why you would want to think otherwise.

If she admits to reading the Washington Post and/or New York Times (my bet is online, as I suspect many of us do, I don't pay for print anything) it does serious injury to her politically by association. If she says she doesn't read them, it again, does injury and probably would be a provable lie. If she says she reads ---unnamed---; it causes minimal harm and remains truthful, but doesn't force her to specifically address how horribly biased she may believe most of the reporting is about conservative issues. (think of Hillary's "right wing conspirators" remarks and how badly those played out.)

The fact that yall don't understand how badly damaging it would be to admit to reading the New York Times without include a direct insult along with the name just shows how badly yall don't understand middle America.

Hehehe... I just watched Katie Couric national news and she interviewed both Palin and Biden about Roe vs. Wade. When Katie asked to name another Supreme court decision that she disagreed with -- she went into incoherent rambling. Katie asked again can you give one specific case. You know she couldn't answer. This woman represents the complete and utter ignorance of all Republicans.

Something to keep in mind here... is that her purpose is not to acquire YOUR votes. Yall never would have voted for McCain and her in the first place; thus your opinion about her is largely irrelevant.

Her purpose is to give Joe Six-Pack and Jane Redneck a reason to look past McCain's lefty tendencies and a reason to show up at the polls. She's performing perfectly so far; and every protest from the intelligencia plays to her advantage and helps to elect McCain.

It is a fun play to watch.

Every, "My candidate is smarter than you and yours...." comment just drives voters to McCain and Sparky; they don't see the advantage of the smart kid; they see the arrogant nerd from high school that always made them angry. Obama is charismatic enough to avoid a lot of it; but yall aren't helping him much! Very Happy

I really believe McCain chose Palin to throw the election on purpose. They want a black man in office when the crash happens.

Then he should have chosen someone old and unremarkable. They'd of faded into the dusk like Dole or Ford before him. Barely remembered, or remarked upon blips on the political screen.

You don't match up charisma vs charisma if you aren't trying to win.

A good chunk of America shows up and votes simply based on which name they remember most. Up until a month ago; that was a hands down Obama landslide. Didn't need to do anything interesting at all for that to be the end result.

Now though.... now we got sparkles!
