I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

That's a 1000+ pt rally today. If the PPT wants to do this, they could at least be stealthy about it.

I wonder if Paulson blew the whole $700,000,000 in the stock market today. That was some crazy manipulation. It's already sinking back into the red though.

It's your 700B at work. It's the Treasury. Bush announced they would do it during his speech this morning.

I'm impressed. I didn't think they would make it to the close. Smallpox girl is right, you just saw them spend hundreds of billions of dollars in 45 minutes. Not all of it, but a good chunk. At least they bought stuff with it and didn't just give it away.

How many of these gut-wrenching weeks can we take? I'm worn out.

Wouldn't that be considered inflationary???

There is no doubt in my mind that the government didn't just do that... We were down ALL day and all of a sudden people started buying? Yeah right... today was manipulation...look at gold/silver... They just had to do something. In the end it will all be for nothing. Hopefully a lot of people got out on that end of the day gain.

How many shares of U.S. Steel did Mr. Whitney buy again? And he paid WHAT for them!? Cool
