I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

With these points in mind, I'd like to start a discussion regarding where the strike points are.
How will the rest of the world rein in the US monster?

You're a little late to the party pal. The US is still a player, but its government is largely subservient to multinational corporations. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the new multinational (multicorporate) entities are the true power brokers. The US just lead the pack of world capitalists toward their inevitable evolution into the current globalization scheme. The powers that be have made it pretty clear there is only one game in town, and thats capitalism.

You want to break the stranglehold of the capitalists?

Stop buying stuff. Live a simple life. Barter and trade, support local, indigenous business that keeps money in local communities. Withdraw cash support from financial markets. Actively boycott countries of origin that belong to the G8 and China. Theres really not much else you can do except network, strengthen social programs and non-profits. Speak out as often as possible to weaken the propaganda onslaught.

Capitalism is a juggernaut. The US is just one passenger. If you live in a G8 country you will be more effective focusing on regional resistance. The less capitalist penetration in an area, the easier it will be preserve some semblance of sanity.

In any case expect massive organized resistance. Network with like minds, mine global activist networks for contacts. Establish an alternative lifestyle. Keep in mind the paradox that some people will opt to support the corporate capitalist system. Chip away at their presumptions and core beliefs as often as possible.

Good advice.
