Meanwhile, keep watching for shortage reports, because we should start seeing some sneak in this week, if our doom-o-meter is calibrated correctly.

My husband is a huge commercial airliner fan. He paid thousands of dollars to play on the 747 training simulator in Colorado just for kicks, back before 9/11 put an end to such opportunities. He even wrote a book about the aviation aspects of 9/11. The day after 9/11 he set up his flight simulator with the same conditions as 9/11 and handed me the joystick to see if I could hit the twin towers. I felt really morbid about it, but I did it to appease his curiosity. I had never touched his joystick before (no naughty jokes, please Razz ) and know almost nothing about piloting, and was able to hit it easily on the first try. Winds were light that day in NY. In his book he noted that in videos the planes appeared to bank slightly at the last second, and speculated that they might have done so deliberately in an effort to maximize the amount of fuel (stored in the wings) getting into the buildings. Having worked as a bartender at the international terminal of IAH in 1996, I can attest to how awful security used to be, and I find it plausible that a group could pull off this attack without aid from our government (which says nothing about what I think actually happened).

None of this proves anything, of course, but as far as the twin towers I know based on my husband's knowledge as well as the statements of pilots that hitting them wouldn't be difficult. Regarding the Pentagon, I find the lack of video footage of a plane far more suspicious than the destruction itself. With so many people in possession of cameras something should've gotten out.

The funny thing about Ruppert is that he was actually blasted by a lot of 911 researchers because he went on the record saying there is no point in trying to solve the 911 puzzle anymore and there are more important things to do. I agree with him, we cannot spend a lot of time on that activity when there are other preparations to make. My only point in flogging the 911 " conspiracy " is the hope that others will at least consider that this has been part of the suppression of the peak oil truth. With that in mind, the next time there are events ( possibly staged ) that serve to get peak oil away from the mainstream conciousness, those who are peak oil aware and open to this concept will be in a better position to understand what may be behind the event itself. Those responsible for these acts, if indeed they were carefully calculated staged events, will hopefully be caught. If no one had ever questioned the official story of 911, do you think that those in positions of power would be likely to act with even greater impunity ?

A couple of us in Glastonbury, namely reggieUK and myself, are already making these connections. Everywhere you look, a lot of the major political and military decisions being taken may well have PO connections. The thing is though, they're scrabbling around in the hope they can put it off, which is ridiculous. Far better to start implementing the stuff we'll need to survive post PO.

The human mind is a brilliant pattern recognition tool. So brilliant it can often pick up shapes and faces where none truly exist. This should always be kept in mind when formulating hypotheses or 'connecting the dots' (like Ruppert).

Without substantial proof why should people believe? Hence, the Sept. 11 cliche: extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Personally, I think that Ruppert has done a great disservice to the American people by creating such a lot of noise with little to back it up with. It will make it that much harder to truly get to the bottom of the tragedy. New evidence will be dismissed as more 'whacked conspiracy theories'.

However, I do not place any trust in the current U.S government. They have proved to be complete and utter liars. So what's new?

Rowante, I think you're right about Ruppert, its a shame that some people throw a lot of assumptions into complicated situations like 9/11. I'm sort of aware that Jim Garrisson did the same thing over the Kennedy Assassination. At first, alerted by the Oliver Stone movie, I was really into Garrisson's evidence, and still am, some of it, but then I discovered more serious works on the Kennedy thing, that really went into it, and those authors (I forget their names) lamblasted Garrisson for screwing up what could have been a thorough and extensive investigation. I seem to remember saying that Garrisson rushed it, and messed up as a result.

This is the problem with conspiracy theorists, they're in love with conspiracy theories, with creating sensationalism, rather than finding out the truth.

When is the US government going to release the files on Kennedy by the way?

Ah, in that case, I've fallen into a classic conspiracy theory trap then. I was under the impression that there was still loads more stuff they were supressing, like witness statements about smoke from the grassy knoll etc

Hey, how did I get onto this? Cancel the conspiracy stuff and lets get back to oil

Well ... this is my first post! Woo hoo!

I know the next couple weeks will be full of shock. I'm already finding myself read a post, stop & think, read some more, stop & think again (for a longer time than the last) ... repeat process over & over.

Glad to see and read from some really interesting people.
