This topic is an invitation to us all to share what we've each done to plan and prepare for a peakoil crisis and post-oil world. I hope it will be fun and serious, and informative.

Today I bought a gardening fork and a packet of broad beans. I'm going to dig a big garden on the sunny side of the house and start planting.

I'm still waiting for the waiting period to expire. With my new paycheck coming up, I'll probably spend it all on food.

Great topic, CC!

I worked on the checklist for things folks can do to prepare for PO that I hope to post here soon.

I also cleaned out and refilled my little (5 gal)water jugs.

I gave the dog a bath (she will be riding with me on the move).

I preached at my best friend for approx. 12.7 min.

I posted my skills and possible contributions on Barbara's Peakoilcommunity-thread to get the ball rolling on that.

I invited my friend who is in Humbolt, CA and financialy-just getting by, to live with me in Sonoma, CA to get him a job and help save up money for things we will need for community/commune.

I had an out of body expierience throu meditation this morning to where my body became just some carcass surounding my spirit to the point where death seemed like a fearless, painless transition. Then I game back to the flesh and kept my head about it, didn't trip out too hard.

I started to realize the best way to find the things we need is in those older than us. Those people lived thru a great depression, and hence they keep freaking EVERYTHING. I am going to ask my grandma if i can go thru her stored stuff to see if there is any of my grandpa s tools in there. He even had a old muscle powered drill, I remember him drilling thru oak boards with it. I will make a longer post when i remember what it is i all have and intend to get in the very near future. Making lists is the first step to figuring out what u need.

Last week I bought my wife the book, "How to grow more vegetables..." by John Jeavons the Growbiointensive guy.

This week, I will try to get my third solar oven built. the first one is at my parents house, the second one is probably wrecked, it was a wedding present for a friend who didn't use it and let the dogs chew on it.

I also ordered a mini solar panel to charge batteries with.

Today I bought 10 7 gallon water jugs from Majorsurplusnsurvival.com

Note: I've shopped around and they seem to have the best deal on a dollar/gallon basis.

Also, if you want a bulk source of protein powder that is not bad tasting at all, to to blackstarlabs.com and click on "protein powders." You can get 50 pounds for $150, which is the best deal you are going to find anywhere. That is going to be my next big purchase.

Maybe this is a thread somebody can start anew each day.

Okay, everyone's done something positive, but I did something negative! I read some pages of the Timebomb2000 website (while surfing during a slack time at work - we still have a few of those) and decided to print them off for my personal use. Didn't check the layout of the page though.......85 pages later............. Evil or Very Mad

Regards,

L.

While deciding if to buy or not that little farm, I'm forcing my neighboor to cut that ugly tree which is throwing shade over my garden-to-be.
I'm learning mini-bioagriculture and squarefoot gardening. I've learned how to build an emergency solar oven and make compost.
I'm planning to start the squarefoot garden on the balcony next month, and to start the biointensive garden in September (when that damned tree will be down forever).
I plan to buy a diesel powered car next year, and begin to put in the tank some seed oil to see what happens (without telling husband, of course).
I'm convincing neighboors to put a well in the common garden.
I began to buy some unexpensive but useful tools, like the dinamo lamp and dinamo radio (both handpowered). I think a radio would be great after peak.

Ordered a dynamo/solar powered radio, more water storage containers and gun accessories from cheaperthandirt. sold a bunch of CDs (I had over 500 -- anyone in the market??? $3 @ or 4 for $10) and other assorted consumer junk at a garage sale last weekend. CDs going like hotcakes. Also taking some more to a store today (CD Warehouse) that buys them.

Putting more junk on EBAY today as well, like LSU fan memorabilia, hitch mount bike rack I don't use, cassette deck, hot rod parts...

Trying to jettison junk and build up cash for items that will have more utility in the future.

BTW, at the CD store yesterday they were "too busy" to take my CDs. Seems there were too many customers waiting to buy.

My dad is an agronomist, who runs a small state university research and extension service. I always thought his job was boring. But these days, I'm a lot more interested in his work, and regular ask him questions about agriculture.

I'm also researching Lasik. I figure the best investment you can make now is in yourself, and that includes your body as well as your mind. Medical care might not be affordable or available in the future. So I'm getting regular checkups, getting any dental work I need done now, and thinking about Lasik. I wanted to wait for awhile, to see how people had this done fared as they aged. But perhaps it would be better to get it done before the spit hits the fan. I don't want to have to worry about glasses/contacts post-peak, if I don't have to.

And I'm saving money to put a down payment on a little farm somewhere. Not sure where. My employer is planning to move somewhere in the immediate future, and I hope it's somewhere cheap and rural. In fact, I'm pushing for it. Smile

Today I found what is called "Jiffy Greenhouse" trays at Home Depot. Each tray has 72 Peat Pellets. Just add water to the pellets when you are ready to start your seedlings. The pellets soak up the water. Then you plant a seed in each pellet, put the lid on the tray, the tray in the sun, keep each little pellet moist and in a few days you have seedlings!

I have already stocked hundreds of packages of seeds, so I'm very excited to have found this product! For $6.99 a tray, what a deal! Of course, the pellets will have to be planted into dirt (or pots) in order for the garden to grow. But it's a GREAT way to get hundreds of plants going in a hurry, in an organized fashion, and in a confined space.
