I think this is the beginnings of an economy based on perpetual growth and fossil fuel energy running headlong into geological energy constraints. Basically I see an undulatory downward path for the rest of my life. From here out, I think any rallies in our economic condition are going to be met with spiking commodity prices that knock us right back down.

Whoops - it wasn't my friend!! Laughing

I think it was Cynics?!

I just thought I'd add that I contacted the mainstream website that published the news article with this link and explained why this was a hoax and they very quickly pulled the article. :D
Shame we can't get rid of the fraudsters themselves so easily.

If it's public domain, why don't they share the "resonance technology" bit right now!?

I think this is just a joke. It looks too goofy.

That's completely real. I've seen it in physics class, and at least 4x at engineering classes. The wind resonated with the bridge and screwed it up that bad. I've seen projects clearly made before I was born play that.

Also, apparently when the military marches over bridges, they make sure to have people not march all to the same beat, in case it causes resonance.

Ditto. Once in Physics class and once in Basics of Engineering. Except in our film clip, the camera kept rolling until the concrete and asphalt crumbled out and the girders fell into the water. We laughed and then we cried as we put together the equations that solved the energy and vibration dynamics. Then we laughed again as we were sipping at our brewskis that night. I'm glad I wasn't driving across it at the time.

Reminds me of a scam that was popular in the UK during the 39-45 war, when fuel was strictly rationed (the ration for private car users varied from 0 for most of the war to 1 gallon/week). A guy drives up to a filling station and asks for a fill-up of water. The Pump Attendant queries it and tells the guy that he needs petrol. He says, no, fill it up with water, please. Eventually, he gets his tankful of water and the puzzled PA watches him as he puts one pill in for each gallon of water. He explains that the pill reacts with the water and turns it into petrol. The PA puts his nose to the filler pipe and, sure enough, he smells petrol (there is a film of a mm or two floating on the top). Of course, the PA falls for it and asks about the pills (really aspirins). He is told they are freely available and each one costs only half the price of a gallon of petrol, so he buys 500 and thinks he is going to make a killing.

This is not a joke but the truth and thousands were taken in by it.

How does the scam guy from this story drive away?

Really! It doesn't take much intelligence to realise that he has fitted a small tank with petrol in it for just that and disconnected the real tank :D

US patent office seemed to accept that it's possible, way back in 1935.

BMW also seem to think this will work
