Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

A forum category for local groups is a GREAT idea! I have the same concerns here in Mpls. Minnesota. I'm skilled, hardworking & preparred as 1 person can be...but my house has less than a quarter acre & a refugee is still a refugee!
Anybody with a few acres of land in my area, i'd like to begin NOW planting apple, pear & peach trees...grape vines & raspberry bushes...prepping a garden area... i just don't have enough land to do it.
thanx pops. is that south of KC, i have a some relations up in topeka,KS
haven't been out there in years. i won't forget ya though, we'll just have to see _________________ remember-we don't inherit the earth from our parents, we lease it from our children
Local Groups category would be a fine idea. To date I think I am the only one on from Central CA, (south of Fresno).
Post peak oil/peak energy scares Las Vegas scares me. (As does Phoenix). Way too many people with way too few natural resources. I am concerned about this place which is fairly dry, but its better than the deserts. Right now Las Vegas is pretty fun to visit but as I blogged this week its future isnt so fun. _________________ UNplanning the future...

North Central Arkansas here. Great idea. I know of a few other Arkansans on the forums - but most are in a different part of the state. Send me a PM if you're anywhere close by.

our land is in caldwell county. not exactly progressive, but not much development pressure...my husband's family has been there for 5 or 6 generations, so he has some pretty strong ties to the area.
i've had a longstanding interest in "grass farming", i was trying to convince my mother-in-law to move more in that direction with her goats. anway, i ran across this website for a farm in georgia where they seem to be raising their goats on pasture. http://www.sweetgrassdairy.com/farms.html
i've read some other info specific to goats, but mostly in french. most of what i've seen has not been specific to dairy goats. we're interested in icelandic sheep, but they don't produce nearly as much milk...
we're getting ready to build a small house and try out some of our ideas. anyone else near caldwell county?
We visited Sweetgrass Dairy a couple of years ago on our way to the beach. At that time they were feeding some grain still----I wasn't aware that they were moving toward grass fed----that's exciting! Their cheeses are incredible---I highly recommend them.
We have also considered milking sheep---talk about an all-purpose animal! Either Icelandics or Friesians, or maybe even a cross. We've actually milked our Shetlands, and they, tiny as they are, gave a reasonable amount of very rich (almost velvety) milk. _________________ ncgoatgirl
