Like the illusion of Wall Street, with its vast and powerful investment banks, now shuttered, China too is an illusion perpetuated by the Globalists that gave us the 15,000 mile Caesar salad, poisoned cat food and lead based paint on babies' pacifiers. Like the illusion that money would come from thin air to always push housing prices higher, China has spent a generation pursuing its illusion. Pursuing an unattainable dream to be like the West, while 6000 years of its carefully shepherded top soil blows into the sea.

Whoa, I'm impressed! They're actually not as much as I thought they would cost. Sw33t. Cool

With this unit you and 199 of your family and friends can party on as everbody top-side gets vaporized or eaten by the maniacal mutant hordes. "Crank up the music! Where's the nachos and beer?" Party on dudes..

The EC 70-128 is a totally self-contained 15 psi elliptical arch condominium disaster shelter designed to protect up to 200 adults for long periods or 400 people for short durations such as during tornadoes. The arches must be assembled on site by local contractors. The product was specifically designed and developed to protect people during and after disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, storms, forest fires, power failures, nuclear power plant accidents, nuclear/chemical terrorism, and full-scale protracted nuclear, chemical and biological war. A tremendous effort has been made to think of every conceivable incident that shelterists could face in all types of disasters. Many geometrical shapes were experimented with before finalizing the EC 70-128. The EC 70-128 includes the fiberglass arches, entranceway, emergency escape, life support system, HEPA filters, carbon filters, eight 2500 gallon fiberglass leaching septic tanks, two 2300 gallon stainless diesel fuel tanks, two 55 KW prime power slow speed diesel generators, water filtration system, plans, etc.

reminds me of the Far Side cartoon, where the man sticks his head out of the bomb shelter, and sees everything blown to bits and says "honey, we made it!"

A large one could be practical as a fulltime home in a city where building lots are small. Put a tiny little house above if you must, and keep most of your yard as open space for gardens or whatnot.

As for "views," in places such as the Bay Area, your "view" out most of your windows is either the crowded street or your neighbor's window at close enough range to watch the ballgame on his TV, which is to say, not much of a view at all. Where I live, I've even heard the neighbors having sex in the building next door. No thanks.

Conventional houses in tornado zones are just plain stupid. All home construction in those areas should be underground or at least earth-sheltered.

The only problem I see with these underground things is if you live in a flood zone. An earthquake shouldn't be a problem since the whole thing shakes along with the ground and should remain intact as long as the ground doesn't split open around it.

Personally, in terms of floorplans, spacious living rooms don't do it for me. Better: a bunch of small functional rooms (including home office & workshop space) off a central hallway. And a decent kitchen (with laundry), and bathroom with enough space to move around comfortably between the sink, shower, and toilet.

I've seen a very interesting arguement posted on one of those sites, saying you can install these things regardless of local building codes, based on the Second Amendment: a bomb shelter is a form of defensive armament. This deserves to be looked into further.

I've often thought about figuring out a way to live underground.

I'd put a small shack above the entrance to my bunker and put up a bunch of no trespassing signs.

I'd use most of my lot for gardens, animal husbandry, etc. and I'd sleep in the bunker.

I'm thinking 1000 square feet would be a good size for my underground house.

Then I realized that such a structure would be extremely expensive and would be much to difficult to maintain...

Oh well, I guess it's back to surface living for me. Cool

Do a google search for earth sheltered houses. I'd like to make one. Not just a bunker, but a full underground house.

not a bomb shelter, but should protect you a bit from fallout. and it's extremely practical to live in, too (passive solar, never gets too hot, etc etc)
